Y6 Creative week

During creative week ,Year 6 looked at the book Charlotte’s Webb BY E.B White. This is a fun story about a spider who spins  messages into webs to help the pig Wilbur.
The children were intrigued by the way in which the messages were spun into the webs. This inspired them to try some nail art. They had to design, put an image onto wood, hammer nails and then create the design using wool.

Don’t you agree the results were amazing?

Creativity week in Nursery

Tinga Tales – Tales from Africa

In Nursery we have been reading ‘Why Elephant has a Trunk’.

We created our own artwork inspired by the patterns and colours from African art and cloth.  We had a go at weaving paper and also practised our cutting skills.

We also watched a video of African drumming.  Mrs Grant goes to African drumming lessons so she taught us a simple rhythm.

Forest School

The KS1 group really enjoyed toasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate.  They listened sensibly about how to keep safe.

We sang songs around the fire and listened to the birds singing too.  Three pairs of garden birds came to visit us, the most I’ve seen in the Forest School area.  There were two blue tits and two other pairs that we haven’t identified yet.

To end the session we poured water on to the fire and made a wish.

The KS2 group were brilliant as well.  They wanted to cook something else on the fire.  It was a bit windy so we made a wind break using a tarpaulin and logs.  Some children used peelers to peel bark off hazel sticks.  We were going to use these to cook with but  unfortunately it was still too  windy  for the children to enter the fire circle.  Instead we wrapped the  scone mixture in tin foil and cooked it in the embers of the fire.  It got a bit burnt but the children said it still tasted delicious.

As the session came to an end it started to rain a little and a beautiful rainbow appeared.

Year 4 – Creativity week

T

This week, Year 4 have focused on the classic story The Jungle Book as inspiration for creative week.

We shared the illustrations in the book and discussed the main characters including, Mowgli, a little boy from the village raised by wolves and Baloo the bear, his faithful friend. We used our sketching skills to draw the characters to make our stick puppets.

We looked at different jungle scenes to help us draw the back drop for our theatre. Then we worked in groups of 4 to perform our show.

Creative Week in Year 1

In Year 1, we have based Creativity week on the story of the ‘Rainbow Fish.’ We discussed how the Rainbow Fish only cared about his beauty and did not care about being a good friend, but after speaking to the wise, old Octopus he changed his ways. We discussed how we can be a good friend and wrote poems to share with you. We have been learning to recite them off by heart! We also know that we are all special and unique in our way and decided to make our very own special, individual fish!

We are all beautiful and special!

Year 5 Art

In Art this week year 5 have explored the artwork of Henri Rousseau and used his style to create some of their own pieces of artwork. They have carefully planned the background as well as sketched animals which camouflage in the Amazon Rainforest.

Can you spot the concealed animals?

Stone Age fun in Year 3

What a busy week!! It started with researching Stonehenge and using watercolours and collage to create our own interpretations. Stonehenge is one of the world’s most famous monuments. It stands on Salisbury Plain, in Wiltshire, and its giant stones can be seen from miles around. Stonehenge was built over many hundreds of years. Work began in the late Neolithic Age, around 3000 BC. Over the next thousand years, people made many changes to the monument. The last changes were made in the early Bronze Age, around 1500 BC. We may never know exactly why Stonehenge was built, but people probably gathered there for religious ceremonies.

Then on Thursday Year 3 took part in as Stone Age experience day with a focus on archaeology – looking at clues from the past to try and work out the story, taking part in a human timeline to see exactly how far back in the past the Stone Age was. Followed by working collaboratively in role as archaeologists to carefully dig and uncover artefacts in a pit. Each group were then able to classify and recod their findings and create a group museum with the artefact and information card.

During the afternoon session Year 3 were able to take part in everyday tasks from the Stone Age – weaving, making arrows, grinding corn and making their own bracelet.

Such a busy, hands on day which Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed 🙂

mixing paint in Nursery

The children experimented with using the paints to make different colours.

We made shades of brown to paint the Ark we had made for our Noah’s Ark display.

Purple mixed with white made a lovely shade of purple.

Red and white to make a lovely pink colour.

A lovely bright orange was made by mixing red and yellow.

Year 4 – R.E

This half term Year 4 are learning about Judaism and this week we focused on the story of Hanukkah. The children listened carefully to the story and summarised the mains events. Then the children worked collaboratively in their groups to create a scene from the story using actions and dialogue.
