Wellbeing week in Year 3

This week it has been Wellbeing Week at the Academy. Year 3 have been finding out more about how to stay safe when online. Year 3 have worked to find out more about the SMART rules for staying safe online.

S – Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information when you’re chatting or posting online. Personal information includes your email address, phone number and password.

M – Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents’ or carers’ permission and even then only when they can be present. Remember online friends are still strangers even if you have been talking to them for a long time.

A- Accepting emails, IM messages, or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don’t know or trust can lead to problems – they may contain viruses or nasty messages!

R- Someone online might lie about who they are and information on the internet may not be true. Always check information with other websites, books or someone who knows. If you like chatting online it’s best to only chat to your real world friends and family

T- Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online.

Have a look at our posters on display in our room or here.

Another focus Year 3 had this week has been on positive mental health. The week started by discussing what mental health is and the importance of positive mental health. Year 3 then explored different mindfulness techniques and evaluated which approach from square breathing, listening to sounds of nature or mindfulness colouring helped focus their minds.

Well being Year 6

This  week in Year 6 we have been looking at Sexting and how quickly inappropriate images can be spread. We played the ‘BLUE STRING GAME’ which highlighted this. We used a Venn diagram to sort scenarios  into categories: emotional ,social and legal.

We also looked at ways to keep a healthy lifestyle and manage stress levels. This is something we hope to maintain in the lead up to SATs.

Well Being Week in Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about physical well being and why being healthy is important. We learnt about different activities and the amount of energy we use. Did you know that physical activity is necessary for strong muscles, bones and a healthy heart? We tried out different activities and then had a go measuring our heart rates to see how it changed over time.

We also learnt about keeping safe online. Year 5 learnt about fake news, why it happens and we came up with some tips on how to tell if news is fake or real. Remember: if a news story seems exaggerated or unrealistic, you should double check on a reliable news source.

Christmas Story

We have been learning about the Christmas story in R.E and the children did some fantastic writing to retell the story.   They were able to sequence pictures of the events and we even spotted Christmas symbols that are important to Christians in the story  such as the star and the gifts from the wise men.

We have been learning about non-fiction in English and writing facts about Autumn and Winter.  In Maths we have been learning number bonds/ pairs to make 10.  The children have written them down systematically to check they have all the number pairs and finding missing numbers in number sentences.  Super work Year One!

We have also made mats and hats for our Christmas lunch on Monday!

Ash End Farm

On Monday Reception and Nursery went on a trip to Ash End House Farm. When we arrived we enjoyed having lunch in the barn and then had lots of fun feeding and stroking the different farm animals. We found out lots of information about the animals and what life is like on the farm. We saw cows, horses, chicks, goats, pigs, and much more. Our favourite part of the trip was seeing the reindeer and Santa. Santa gave us all a present and we sang lots of Christmas songs throughout the day. We also learnt about the Christmas story and acted it out. Before our coach journey back to school we had a play in the play area.

Free@Last

This half term some children have had the chance to work with the Free@Last team in their new building. Children have experienced using the Climbing Wall and Recording Studio. Sessions will continue to run until the new year.

During the time spent at Free@Last we have been able to see what talented musicians and climbers we have at the academy. Well done to you all.
