Christmas Story

We have been learning about the Christmas story in R.E and the children did some fantastic writing to retell the story.   They were able to sequence pictures of the events and we even spotted Christmas symbols that are important to Christians in the story  such as the star and the gifts from the wise men.

We have been learning about non-fiction in English and writing facts about Autumn and Winter.  In Maths we have been learning number bonds/ pairs to make 10.  The children have written them down systematically to check they have all the number pairs and finding missing numbers in number sentences.  Super work Year One!

We have also made mats and hats for our Christmas lunch on Monday!

Year One weather reporters!

This week we have been busy learning about the weather in Autumn and looking out for the weather of the day.  We watched weather forecasts and had a go at doing our own weather forecasts using weather language we have learnt such as; frosty, misty, foggy, cold, rain etc.

We have been retelling the story of Plop. The Owl that was afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson.  Today we rewrote the story in our books using punctuation and story language we have learnt throughout the week.  We even learnt how to use exclamation marks and question marks!  Well done Year One!

We have also been learning how to show numbers in different ways.

Week 8 Subtracting Fun

The children have had a hard working last week of term with lots more exciting learning.  In English we created our own dragons and had a think about what magical powers they could have.  We did some writing about our dragons using adjectives to describe our dragons.

In Maths we have been learning how to subtract (takeaway).  We have solved practical problems and recorded our work suberly in a range of ways.

Thank you for all your support over the last half term.  Thank you children for all your hard work and super progress with your learning!

Enjoy a well deserved rest over the holidays!

Non-fiction learning

This week we have been learning about non-fiction books.  We have learnt to look out for features such as; a contents page, labels, captions, an index page and a glossary.  We looked through lots of books to see if we could find the non-fiction books using a checklist of features.  We sorted fiction and non-fiction books so well!

We have made our own pages of a non fiction book about ‘My Amazing Body’.  We labelled a leg and a whole skeleton!  Then we wrote captions about parts of our body and our organs.  We even thought about the job each organ can do.  Well done Year One for such enthusiastic learning this week!
