Y3’s Link class in Jakarta, Indonesia

Our link class is in a  school in Jakarta which is in Indonesia. We have already been sent videos and emails from our link class and this week we received a very battered parcel which had taken a few weeks to arrive.

Year 3 were most excited and couldn’t wait to see what was inside. To their surprise, our link class had produced posters telling us more about their school.  Year 3 worked collaboratively and helped each with reading and understanding.

Andy Goldsworthy

This week, the children have learnt about the artist Andy Goldsworthy. They found out that he makes sculptures using natural resources such as leaves, stones, rocks and ice. The children collected different materials and had a go at creating artwork in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.
Here are some photos of their fabulous work:

Victorian Parlour

Year 6 have turned their reading corner into a Victorian Parlour.  On a Friday we have reading for pleasure and some  children choose to read in the Parlour.

This is an opportunity for children to share books, discuss their likes and dislikes about the book .

Lyla said ” I like that we can choose books and read wherever we like and talk with our friends about the book” The children enjoy this fun way of reading for pleasure.

Year One weather reporters!

This week we have been busy learning about the weather in Autumn and looking out for the weather of the day.  We watched weather forecasts and had a go at doing our own weather forecasts using weather language we have learnt such as; frosty, misty, foggy, cold, rain etc.

We have been retelling the story of Plop. The Owl that was afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson.  Today we rewrote the story in our books using punctuation and story language we have learnt throughout the week.  We even learnt how to use exclamation marks and question marks!  Well done Year One!

We have also been learning how to show numbers in different ways.

Write Dance in Nursery

Twice a week in Nursery we all take part in Write Dance activities.  These help our muscles to develop so that we will be able to write letters and words when we are ready.

We start by singing a song that has actions to go with it.  We then make marks on big paper to go with each part of the song.

Anti-bullying Week: Year 5’s Class Assembly on Peer Pressure

Year 5 have been learning about peer pressure as part of Anti-bullying week. We started the week by learnig about the different types of bullying and discussed different ways to tackle bullying. We then explored peer pressure, what it means and how it can effect us. We thought of different was to tackle this and the importance of believing in ourselves rather than giving into what our friends say and do.

On Wednesday, we led the school assembly all about peer pressure. Thank you to the parents and carers who came to watch.

Anti-Bullying Week in Year 3

During Anti-Bullying week, Year 3 have spent time finding out more about the different forms of bullying  by role playing different scenarios and thinking about the feelings of others.

Bullying is something that can hurt you on the inside or on the outside. It hurts you on the outside by hitting you and hurting you physically. It hurts you on the inside by name calling or hurting your feelings.

Bullying is done on purpose, it’s not an accident. If someone hurts you during a game by accident that is not bullying, but if every time you played a game they hurt you, or your feelings that would be bullying.

It can aim to hurt a group of people or just one person and can be done by a group or just one person. Bullying happens more than once. Nobody deserves to be bullied. EVER

After exploring different scenarios, Year 3 discussed what a good friend would do / should be like. Have a look at our ideas on display in our classroom.

Anti-Bullying Week in Reception

This week we have spoken about kindness and feeling happy. We have also spoken about how we are all different but all needed to be treated fairly.

Here are some of the children’s views on kindness:
Salma – “I am kind because I share.”
Sedille – “I am kind because I help tidy up and I am good all the time.”
Aisha – “I am kind because I make friends with everyone.”
Mussie – “I am kind. I help. I tidy.”
Khadija – “I am kind because I play with everyone.”

Here are some of the children feeling happy!

Year 4 – Anglo-Saxon Workshop

On Friday, Year 4 had an Anglo-Saxon drama workshop. We acted out different events that happened during the Anglo-Saxon period in history. We learnt some new historical vocabulary such as invaders, settlers and raiders.  Also we learnt the names of some Anglo-Saxon God and Goddess. Did you know that the Anglo-Saxon’s believed in more than one god? Our special visitor used the Anglo-Saxon alphabet to predict Mahamed’s and Humayra’s future just like they did during the Anglo-Saxon times. At the end of our workshop, we acted out the famous story Beowulf, who was played by Isaiah and Ubaidullah played the role of the evil monster Grendel.

Busy bees in Nursery

The children have been making things using junk modelling.  Some children made cars, Rhight made a yellow Lamborghini!

The new book area has been very popular.  The nursery children love listening to stories and looking at books by themselves.

Here the children are practising their mark making skills.  All the give meaning to their marks, which is the first stage of learning to write.  Well done Nursery 🙂
