Year 3 have been learning a new narrative ‘The King of the Fishes’. We created actions to help us remember the story and will be practicing and getting to know the story very well for the next few weeks. Here is the story map that we use to help us and a video of our story telling.

Calm me
At the beginning of every jigsaw lesson we help our minds calm down so that we are ready to learn.
Circle time We all sang the Jigsaw song: ‘changing as I grow’. We used Jigsaw jack as the talking object to share any thoughts the children have about the words of the song, focused on how we might change. Reinforced the idea that we all change and that is okay.

We all sat in a circle and sang the Jigsaw song: changing as I grow. Showed PowerPoint pictures of a baby, toddler, teenager, adult and elderly person. In talking partners, asked children to describe two changes they can visibly see that happened to an elderly person. Shared ideas. Discussed with children how our bodies might change and asked them to think about what other changes might happen, e.g. bodies become slower, old people run less but might get wiser and kinder. Magen the point that change is a natural process as we get older and we have no control over it.
Read the book ‘my grandpa is amazing’ and discussed what happened in the story.
This week the children have been learning all about 3D shapes.
The children have learnt a 3D shape song and used the large shapes to create models. We have also explored everyday 3D shapes in our environment.
Year 5 have just started a new topic- Alchemy Island. Over the next half term, we will be investigating the world of alchemy, discovering gold and changing materials. We began this week by learning about solutions. We carried out an investigation to discover which materials were soluble and which were insoluble. We made predictions and observed the changes when we added the substance to the water. There were some surprises.
This week Year 2 completed their Into faith week and we were learning all about Islam. They children are very knowledgeable and know lots of interesting information about Parent’s workshop where we shared information about Mecca, the holy city in Saudi Arabia.
During the workshop, the children and their parents got crafty by making their own version of the Ka’ba, which is the holy building in the centre of Mecca. Many Muslims believe this is the birthplace of the prophet Muhammed.
Today, Year 6 took part in a inter-school competition at The Hub, in Perry Barr. It was a great morning of football and all the St Clement’s teams played well. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the finals but we had a very enjoyable morning. Man of the match was Tyler Billingham-Roberts , who was outstanding in defence and Ali Abubakr made some exceptional saves.
Every week in Nursery the children do such a wide variety of activities. Here is just a selection of some of things we have done this week.
Drawing, name writing, number work, hunting for insects, learning to ride a balance bike, watering the plants, learning to write our names and completing puzzles.
This week the Year 4 children were determined to make a rope swing. I supported them to find a suitable branch. They then worked together to get the rope over the branch. This involved a lot of perseverance and team work 🙂 They really enjoyed using the swing once they had finally completed it.
The Year 5 children were busy doing a variety of activities.
Some children used the loppers and the bow saw to cut down and trim some of the willow branches ready to use them for den building.
Some children used the peelers to whittle sticks and then decorated them.
Some children had a go at using the flint and steel strikers.
This week the children and adults showed a lot of interest in the ribbon twirling equipment – even Mr Burton. Trikes and bikes again were enjoyed by the children and gave them the opportunity to continue to develop their gross motor skills. We would like to thank all the families who continue to attend Stay and Play on a regular basis. You have made it what it is – a fun, engaging, welcoming, happy, educational time.
