Forest School

This week a new group of children came outside for their first Forest School session.  We got to know the rules, explored the area and did a team building challenge.

The children all had to stand on the tarpaulin.  Then they had to work as a team to try and flip the tarpaulin over without anyone’s feet touching the ground.

Jenneh collected litter and put it in the bin.  What a superstar 🙂

Little Red Riding Hood in Reception

This week we have been focusing on the book ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We have learnt actions for the story and created a story map as a class. The children have written a list of what was in LRRH’s basket. They have labelled the character’s name. They have also labelled the big, bad wolf and have sequenced and retold the story!

Year 6 Anti Bullying week: Verbal,Visual, Racism and Homophobia

This week we have been looking at the different types of bullying that can occur. We have also looked at  bullying  that happened during Victorian times.

The children were shocked to find out that children, in Victorian times, were made to face the wall and wear a ‘dunces’ just because they were slow learners or unable to keep up with their peers. This was seen as a form of verbal bullying.

Adheer could not believe that children could be humiliated in this way. He was also shocked to find out that children were physically bullied and made to do jobs they didn’t want to do.

We also looked at Homophobia and through discussion children understood that it was another form of bullying and unacceptable.

We  discussed that people have used graffiti and signs as a form of visual bullying through the years and this has also been seen as being  unacceptable.

Erica made reference to this by pointing out  the signs which were used by the Nazis during World War II.

The children now have a better understanding of bullying and that it can occur in different forms

Shapes everywhere!

Year 1 have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We know that there are lots of shapes in our environment. We can name the shapes and we can talk about the properties of the shapes.  We have been exploring 3D shapes and discovered the 2D shapes that we can see on them. We can see 6 square faces on a cube! We created our 3D shapes using midget gems and cocktail sticks!

Take a look at what we have made!
