During book week Year 6 have been using the book Arthur Spiderwick’s Field guide to the Fantastical World Around You. They created some new creatures alongside the parents in our workshop. The creatures were created using 3 different animals and then painted using watercolours.

Year 5
Poetry in Year 3
This week our writing focus has been on poetry. The week started off by immersing ourselves in different poems all around the same theme – rivers. Year 3 spent time reading, discussing and also preparing their favourite poems for performance. Performances were improved and enhanced after watching different poets in action-Benjamin Zephaniah, John Agard and Michael Rosen . Year 3 were able to identify what made a great performance and used this in their own performance of Valerie Bloom’s poem The River.
GALLERY REBELS
This half term we are looking at the topic ‘Gallery Rebels’ and finding out about artists and different movements in art. We will be looking at Surrealism and linking this into our literacy through narrative and poetry.
We started the topic by turning our book corner into an art gallery. Over half term ,children made sculptures from foil to be hung or displayed in the gallery.
Perfume making in Reception
The children have been interested in making their own perfumes. We got some flowers and bottles and beakers and funnels for the children to cut up the flowers and mix with water. Some children even made up names for their perfume such as ‘princess rose’ and ‘rainbow flowers’. We even had some children decorate their perfume bottle to make it all fancy!
Gardening
This week we spent some time getting the garden ready to plant seeds.
We had to dig the area first and pull out all of the weeds.
We tried hard to get all the roots as well and we enjoyed seeing who could find the longest root.
We had to take turns when using the garden tools and make sure that we used them safely.
We found worms and caterpillars while we were digging.
Forest School
This week a new group of children started Forest School sessions. We played some games to establish how to keep safe during Forest School sessions and also to help us learn each other’s names.
We then did a team building challenge, the children had to stand on a tarpaulin and, without their feet touching the grass, they had to flip the tarpaulin over. I was really impressed with how the children listened to each other and managed to achieve the task without any support from me.
Some children spent some time climbing trees.
Two girls were eager to learn how to peel the bark from a stick using the potato peelers.
We could hear some birds in the trees, so some children used the binoculars and ID sheet to try and identify what type of birds they were. We saw blue tits and magpies.
st clement’s stay and play
We had a busy week at Stay and Play, welcoming four new children to the group. We ended the session with song time, where all children joined in with ‘Twinkle Twinkle’. If you would like to come along to the sessions they are held every Wednesday (term time) at Free @ Last, 9.15am – 10.15am. For more information please see Miss Akers.
Year 4 – Our visit to the new library
This week year 4 visited the new library and discovered all the new books Mrs Fox has order for all our school. We all scanned the shelves to find a picture book, or novel that took our fancy. Some of us were even lucky enough to us the kindles and search through the e-books! We all love our reading for pleasure time and having a new space to read our books makes it even better!
