During this week we have looking at what will help us to be successful in Year 3. We discussed all the positive personal qualities such as respectfulness, kindness, understanding, sharing and working together.
We had an assembly by Miss Shryane about when we help others we become at peace with ourselves.
After the assembly we talked lots about the meaning of Peace and what it means to us as individuals, a class, as a St Clement’s family, a family at home, a community in Nechells and as a world wide community. We then created a display using the symbol of peace, the dove. We learnt that for peace to be spread it needs to start from with in us, so that was the theme of our display ‘Peace begins with me’. If I smile at someone, they will smile back, if I am kind to my friend, they will be kind back. When I show calmness, calmness will be reflected back.
What can you do today to let peace begin with you?
Have a look at our pictures and talk to Year 3 about what Peace means to them.
It’s been a great start to the new school year! The children have come back to school enthusiastic and ready to learn. A big thank you to the parents for reminding your children to bring their book bags to school everyday, it’s great to hear that so many of you are reading your books everyday. A quick reminder that in Year 2, we have P.E on Tuesday and Wednesday so make sure you have your P.E kit in school on these days.
This week in our topic lessons, we have started to learn all about the Great Fire of London in 1666. The children have found out all about how the fire started in a small bakery shop and soon spread all through the streets of London. We have made some fantastic art work using lots of different and unusual materials to show the flaming fires in the streets.
Year 6 have been looking at the fruits of the spirit, we have been learning about self-control. We defined self-control as when you stop yourself doing something that would be wrong or hurtful. We wrote scenarios about when we have showed good self-control, we presented these to the class.
We discussed that it was not always easy to use self-control in some situations. To show self-control you can pray, count to 10, mediate, walk away or take a deep breathe. This might stop you doing something you will later on regret.
We worked hard to write some poems about self-control. We used dictionaries to check our spelling and a thesaurus to use precise vocabulary. We enjoyed presenting them to the class and even to Mr Ricketts. Below are some examples of poems, find our display to see more of our work.
This is the start of the new school year, and Year 1 have settled in extremely well into their new classroom. The children have really enjoyed the different activities, and have been working really hard to complete the special daily challenges. The children have been displaying excellent behaviour, and are definitely ready to start their year in Year 1. This term, Year 1 will be focusing on stories by Julia Donaldson.
In Year 4 we have been studying the artwork of Pablo Picasso. We discussed the shapes and colours in his portraits and used these techniques to create our own self-portraits. We followed a step-by-step guide to draw our face. Then we used bright colours to colour our own artwork.
