During Art week Year 3 have been using different mediums to create different styles of foxes. We used the tile printing method to create some wanted posters. We looked at the famous Artist Andy Warhol and recreated his famous Pop Art style. First we had to draw our own fox, Mrs Hall and Miss Groom made this really easy by giving us step by step instructions to follow. Then we had to choose really bright, bold colours to make the fox pop and stand out. We also made some origami fox heads, this was our favourite activity of the week.
We also wrote some descriptions of Fantastic Mr Fox and the three mean farmers in our writing lessons and in maths we had to help the farmers create a safety fence for the the chicken house and work out the perimeter of the fence.
During our reading lessons we read and answered questions about the book fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, who was born 100 years ago.
Today is a special day held to celebrate him and remember all the books he wrote, so at St Clement’s we decided to dress up for this special day
Year 6 have been learning about Roald Dahl this week as this would have been his 100th birthday. We have been reading and learning about the BFG.
We solved BFG word problems including converting between different measures.
We had a note from the BFG asking us to make Sophie a chair. We then had to upscale it 4 times to make one for the BFG.
We wrote instructions so we could tell other children how to catch dreams. We wrote our own dreams into a dream jar so it was ready for the BFG to catch.
We made dream catchers to help the BFG catch more dreams. We drew sketches in the style of Quentin Blake and used watercolours to add colour.
On Friday we could dress up as our favourite character from a Roald Dahl book, Mrs Harris came as the BFG and Mrs Webster came as Mrs Twit.
This week to celebrate Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday, we have been learning about one of Miss Tsang’s favourite childhood stories ‘The Big Friendly Giant- (The BFG)’. We have been so busy creating and making lots of BFG art work. We have especially enjoyed making our very own dream jars and also an actual life size BFG. He is now sitting in our reading area, ready to help us read!
Today we loved dressing up as lots of different characters from Roald Dahl’s stories! Take a look at what we have dressed as…
This week in Year 2, we have been exploring the story of The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl. We found out he was a mean crocodile who liked to eat children!
We have created lots of wonderful art based on the characters in the story. We have made our own Enormous Crocodile to sit in our reading corner along with his ‘notsobig’ crocodile friends. We have also written our own Revolting Recipe ‘Vomit Vegetables’ to feed to the crocodile so he doesn’t eat the juicy children.
We have had lots of fun learning all about the characters in Roald Dahl’s stories and dressing up as them on our Roald Dahl Day!
During Roald Dahl Week Year 5 have read one of Roald Dahl’s famous books ‘The Witches’. The children really enjoyed the story and all the work which we covered based on the book. During the week the were given the opportunity be reporters and created a news report on the disappearance of the children in the story. Children also created a guide on ‘How to recognise a witch’, artwork where they were transformed themselves into witches in the story and solved maths problems related to a range of Roald Dahl stories.
The children in Nursery have had a fantastic first week. They have all enjoyed getting to know their classroom, teachers and each other.
The children have been making the most of the sunshine outside by playing in the water, building dens and playing with the hoops and tyres.
Inside the role play area has been a big hit and ‘Our Wonderful Work’ display is already full of some fantastic art work. The sand and play dough areas have been popular too.
We are looking forward to another busy week next week.
Reception have had a fantastic first full week at St Clements! They have all settled in really well and are getting familiar with our rules and routines and exploring our fantastic new environment! The children have really enjoyed learning inside and outside, making new friends and singing new songs. We have also had lot’s of fun learning about Roald Dahl and the Enormous crocodile. All of the children created their own crocodile masks.
During PSHE , the children looked at the characters from their Dot Com journals. They began to identify what they liked about each character and how the characters showed kindness to others. Wizard the dog, Slam’s dad, who is a firefighter and PC P. Bonnet, who is a police officer, were some of the children’s favourites. Looking at these characters helped the children to discuss who helps them and the training some people have to go through to do their job. The children agreed PSHE is part of their training in managing their feelings and making positive choices.
Next week, we will be looking at what makes us special.
On the 14th September in PHSE, the children discussed when, where and who makes them feel safe. They were asked to complete an activity on safe and unsafe situations.
