Goodbye year 2

Year 2, it has been an absolute pleasure being your teachers this year! We don’t think we’ve ever worked with such a hard working and enthusiastic class! Thank you so much for your dedication to learning throughout the year.

Have a fantastic summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you all next year!

Gone in a flash!

This is our final blog for this academic year. The year has been busy and seems to have gone in a flash. Apart from our daily activities we have  been on several educational visits which have linked to our topics. Performed in a brilliant Nativity, taken part in the whole school sports day, celebrated The Queen’s 90th Birthday and visited Aston Parish Church, to mention just a few highlights!

We visited Wing Yip. The staff there were so kind to us and made us feel very welcome.

We all did our best at sports day at Windley Leisure Centre.

This will be my last day at at St Clement’s as I am taking early retirement. I would like to say a very sad goodbye  to all the wonderful staff, parents and lovely children . It has been a joy to work in this amazing little school with a great big heart. I will miss you all but wish every single one of you all the very best for the future. Love from Mrs Shakespeare xxx

A year in Year 1

As this academic year is nearly over we have been thinking about what we have enjoyed doing in Year 1. We have been discussing what our favourite parts have been and what we would like to do as we move on to Year 2.

In Autumn term we went to Sutton Park. We fed the ducks and went hunting for sticks. It was so much fun but really hard work!IMG_0641IMG_0670

We observed changes in the seasons and as it became winter we started to explore cold places in our world. We made a penguin display and wrote poems about penguins.

In Spring our topic changed again and we learnt all about different animals. We went on a trip to Twycross Zoo. We touched lots of different animals including a hissing cockroach and a turtle. We saw some bigger animals too, including lots of different kinds of monkeys, giraffes, elephants and even a leopard.

We made sandwiches for a tea party with the Queen. The tea party was so much fun, it was a shame the Queen was too busy to come!

Our parents came in to help us discover all about volume and capacity.

We were also lucky enough to be part of the Bookshare project. We received 10 free books throughout the year and we went to a special celebration at Heartlands Academy.

Mrs Webster and Mrs Ali hope you all have a lovely summer holidays and can’t wait to hear all about it in September.

A look back in time. We remember our time in Year 3.

As this week draws to a close Year 3 have been thinking about all the things we have enjoyed doing this year.  They have discussed what they would like to do again, what they would like to change and what they would didn’t really like doing and why.  They have also thought about what tips they would like to pass on to the new Green Class next year.  We took this opportunity to look back over the multitude of photographs that have been taken.  Here are some of our favourites.

Why not ask Green Class about them and their favourite memories?

Year 4 Maths investigation

Year 4 took their maths outside to investigate if people with longer arms can throw further. Each person threw the beanbag three times and recorded their measurements. We then found the average distance thrown for each child and recorded this data on a bar chart. We measured each others arms to see if people with longer arms did throw the furthest.

Spaghetti and marshmallow towers

Being the last week of term, we’ve decided to have some more practical and investigative lessons in Year 5. Today, the class were challenged to build the tallest tower they could using… spaghetti and marshmallows. The class split into teams of three and they were all given approximately 30 pieces of spaghetti and 12 marshmallows. We first spent 10 minutes experimenting with designs before feeding back ideas as to what worked well. The teams then had 20 minutes to build the tallest tower they could, that could support its own height. The winning design measured 43cm!

Check out some photos below.

Carnival!

Year 6, sponsored by Lookers Vauxhall, worked with Birmingham Hippodrome and costume designers Imagineer to produce fantastic costumes and choreography for this year’s St. Clement’s carnival. The rest of the Academy joined in with masks and costumes of their own.

Carnival Time

Year 1 have been doing lots of creative activities this week linked to Brazil and carnivals.

We made masks for the carnival by sticking feathers, gems and glitter on to our masks. We tried to make the symmetrical.

We made shakers so we could make lots of noise in the carnival. We had to carefully cover our bottle in glue then stick on the colours of the Brazilian flag on to it.

DSC02305 DSC02306 DSC02307 DSC02308 DSC02309  DSC02311 DSC02312

We went outside and created big pieces of art work in the playground by splatting paint onto big sheets of paper. Come and see them in the Year 1 classroom if you get a chance.

DSC02314 DSC02318 DSC02329 DSC02331 DSC02334

We also created some poems. We thought about what we could see, hear and smell at a carnival. We worked really hard to think of good vocabulary to use in our poems.

Year 6 – Creativity Week

This week in Year 6, we completed research on Brazil and created leaflets to encourage tourists to visit Brazil. We worked our hardest to produce this work and we learned a lot of facts from our research.

As well as learning facts and preparing leaflets, we created bracelets and flags using Brazilian colors to use during the carnival parade. There fun bright colours helped protray happiness.

We were also taught some choreography which we performed in-front of the whole school. It was a thrilling time for us to experience and we think it was a great enjoyment for the children who were watching. Year 6 tried their hardest and showed their maturity and hard work throughout the show.

Along with the Brazilian dancing we created our own Samba band and Samba songs which was fun to experience their cultures singing and made a loud but fun atmosphere.

Overall we had great and everyone enjoyed themselves and the activities.

Creativity Week – Making a musical story

During Creativity week Year 4  listened to different pieces of music from the Carnival of the Animals.  We guess which piece of music represented each animal and discussed which instruments were used to show large and small and fast and slow animals. We then experimented with a range of instruments to produce different sounds. We worked as a group to create a sound story using different rhythms and instruments.  In our story we created a calm sea filled with playful fish, which ended with a shark attack.
