Year 4 have been learning about their new science topic states of matter. We worked in groups to classify materials into solids, liquids and gases. We shared our work with the class and justified our reasons for our choices. We learnt more about the properties of the three materials.
The Gruffalo
This week in Year 1 we started our learning based around the Gruffalo. We have been busy making models of the Gruffalo and making our very own stick puppets of the characters. We have used a range of resources, skills and our imaginations to create our puppets. The children then decided to use them to re-tell the story in the forest small world.
We have also been learning to re-tell the story of the Gruffalo off by heart. In order to help us learn the story we have created story maps and as a class come up with actions.
Year 4 PSHE
During PSHE this week, we looked at how Police Officers report crimes and the information they need to know. We used drama to showcase our work and completed police reports for the crimes we acted out.
We were able to work together in small groups to plan our drama and enjoyed presenting our work to the rest of the class.
Miss Akers
Year 3 PSHE
Today, we welcomed two special visitors to the school, who helped us with our lesson on, ‘The Emergency Services’. We discussed the importance of the, 999, service and how it should be respected. In table groups, we talked about when we might call 999 and the information we would need to know to share with the operator. The two officers also helped us understand the purpose of the number, 101, and when we might need to use this. The lesson was great fun and a fabulous opportunity to ask lots of questions.

The Gruffalo comes to reception!
Settling in to Nursery
All of the Nursery children have now started and have settled in well to their new class.
It has been lovely to see old friendships resumed and new friendships develop over the week.
We have been working hard on establishing routines. Tidying up is tricky but we are getting better!
Our story this week has been The Gingerbread Man. We enjoyed acting out the story with stick puppets.
We are looking forward to another busy week next week.
Place Value Matters.
This week in Year 3 Maths lessons have been all about place value. We have been embedding and extending our knowledge of numbers. We have looked at reading and writing our numbers correctly, using Base 10 to partition a number and split it into its hundred tens and ones and some of us have even been looking at thousands.
Miss Groom challenged her group to solving the place value ice cream problem. We had to work together to discuss and match the words, the numerals, the expanded form and how many thousands, hundreds, tens and ones each number had.
Paralympics
This week Year 5 and 6 worked together this week because it was residential.
The week was themed around the Paralympics.
We researched Paralympics, making notes. We then wrote their biography’s. We also wrote a report about the Paralympics, transforming notes into a piece of non-fiction writing.
We did art in the style of Romero Britto, a famous Brazilian artist. We used an atlas to find out where Paralympians were from, we found it hard to find the countries on our world maps even though we tried to be very accurate.
We discussed what it would be like to compete in the Paralympics. We also played sitting down volleyball. It was lots of fun but it was really hard to not move for the ball!
Things are shaping up in Year 2!
This week in year 2 we have been learning all about shapes! We have been learning lots of facts about 2D shapes. The children have discussed similarities and differences and we have been spotting them in our outdoor environment and in our classrooms. We know that a pizza slice is like a triangle because it has 3 corners and 3 sides! Next week we will be searching for 3D shapes.
