Rosie’s Walk

Nursery have enjoyed reading the book Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins.  In the story Rodie goes for a walk through the farmyard.  She doesn’t realise that the fox is following her.

The story helped us to practise positional language like ‘over’ ‘under’ and ‘through’.  We enjoyed making up our own versions of the story using different farm animals.

Capacity in Reception

This week for Maths Reception have been learning about capacity. They have been able to recognise the amounts ‘full’, ’empty’ and ‘half full and half empty’ and have been using the language lots. They used coloured water and rice to explore this.

Year 6 Residential

Year 6 Residential
A group off Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to attend a one night residential, supported by our friends at Holford Drive Sports Hub. The children and staff arrived at the Hub after school on Friday. The first activity had the children working together and communicating in a variety of ‘Team Building Games’. The children then took part in a workshop looking at social issues effecting young people today, delivered by Colvin White, who is part of the Birmingham Safeguarding Board. Pizza and chips were enjoyed by all for tea, as well as Pancakes and Toast the next morning. The children also had the opportunity to participate in Dodge Ball, Table Tennis, PS4 Competitions and not forgetting, football, outside in the dark! All the children had a great time and we look forward to our next trip.

” It was so much fun. I really want to come again.” Year 6 Pupil.

Y3 School Nurse visit

Maria our school nurse came into class this week to talk to us more about keeping our bodies healthy from our heads to our toes. Year 3 worked collaboratively to identify how we can keep our bodies healthy.

Maria told us that headaches can be caused by not drinking enough water in class so we must make sure we drink enough water to stay hydrated. Another possible reason for a headache is that we may need to visit the optician, especially if we are finding it difficult to see the board or our reading books.

Head Lice can spread very quickly in a classroom. Head Lice often called nits. Nits are the empty egg sacs that often look like dandruff in our hair. Egg sacs can look like brown dots on each strand of hair. Maria advised that each week we should check our hair. Head Lice are small wingless insects and are spread by close contact between our heads. Sign of Head Lice are if an itchy scalp which stop us learning or keep us awake, white flakes in hair or brothers or sisters with . Get an adult check by  combing  through hair with a comb and conditioner.

Coughs and colds spread germs so it is vital to catch the cough or sneeze in a tissue , throw it away and wash our hands properly.

Ask Year 3 for further details 🙂

Year 4 – Think Tank Science trip

On Tuesday, year 4 went to the Think Tank for an exciting start to our science topic ‘Humans, including animals’. When we arriving at the Think Tank, we discovered the talking robots and found out how they behaved like humans. During our science workshop, we found out that we have 206 bones in our bodies and 32 adult teeth. We learnt lots of new facts about how the digestive system works and what a healthy balanced diet looks like. At the end of the day, we visited the science garden and played outside on the exciting apparatus and water fountains.

Book Week in Nursery

On Monday an author called John Dougherty came to visit.  He read us his funny book called ‘There’s a Pig up my Nose!’ He also played his guitar and sang about the story whilst we joined in with the sound effects.  It was great fun.  Lots of us would like to be authors when we grow up.

We love books 🙂

On World Book Day we dressed up as our favourite book characters and Year 2 came to Nursery to read with us.  We enjoyed looking at books and reciting the story of ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ together.

On Friday our parents came in for a reading workshop.  We listened to ‘Chicken Lickin’ and showed our parents how good we are at joining in with the repeating phrases.  Then our mums and dads helped us make Chicken Licken stick puppets to take home.  We then chose a book to read with our parents .

Book Week in Reception

Reception have been focusing on the book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. The children have painted pictures of the setting, they have labelled the characters, they have sequenced the story and written sentences to match. We had the author John Docherty visit us on Monday. On Tuesday we went to the forest school area and we found a wild thing! We worked together to create a den for it. He read his book called ‘There’s a pig up my nose’ which the children really enjoyed. He also sang a song about the story. On Thursday the children enjoyed dressing up  as different story characters. Year 5 came to join us to read the children their favourite books.

Book Week in Year 5: Coraline

Year 5 have had a fantastic week learning through the story Coraline during Book Week. We started the week of with drama and a visit from an author. We used our creative and D&T skills to create characters and a new setting. We really enjoyed working with parents to make the dioramas. They look fantastic!

We then used these to create a stop mo

tion video on the iPads to depict the problem

and resolution in the story. We made some brilliant chase and escape scenes!

We finished off the week by using all this inspiration to write our own stories and solve fraction and percentage problems in maths.

Book week in Year 1

It has been such a fun week in Year 1! An alien crash landed into our classroom and left us a special book for us to read. We read ‘The way back home’ and predicted and answered questions related to the story.  We thought about our school day and wrote a recount to share with the alien. In Maths, we found a footprint and applied our measuring skills to find out who’s foot it belonged to. On Thursday, the parents joined us for a workshop where we created our very own alien in a spaceship. We also enjoyed book share with Year 4!

It has been such a busy week, take a look at all the fun we’ve had!
