Tales of Fear

During week 5 of this half term,  Year 3 have been busy working to write their own Tales of Fear. Ideas have been readily flowing with fears ranging from spiders to crabs to bears. After planning, Year 3 orally shared their story with a friend who offered support by making sure the story followed the five parts of a tale of fear.

  1. Opening paragraph – the main character is afraid of something and is worried about it.
  2. Build up paragraph – the main character starts to do something
  3. Problem paragraph – What the main character fears actually comes true!
  4. Resolution paragraph – the main character overcomes the fear
  5. Ending paragraph – the main character has conquered the fear and looks to the future

After writing, Year 3 spent time making their changes to punctuation, grammar and also spelling. Then it was time to think like an author by publishing their stories.

Pop into Year 3 and have a read 🙂

Year 5 wedding celebrations

Year 5 joined in the whole school celebration of Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s wedding on Saturday. We made bicuits fit for a royal wedding reception and decorated them with flags, crowns and good luck messages.

We also had challenges to complete on our home tables. Our first challenge was to design and make a wedding dress for our Meghan doll. Our second challenge was to design and build a bridge strong enough to carry our wedding car across the River Thames.

With only newspaper, lollipop sticks and sellotape, it was tricky but we did it.

Celebrating the Royal Wedding

Today we added items of red, white and blue to our uniforms to celebrate the Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan.

We talked about the Royal Family and found out where they are going to get married.   We also talked about why we were wearing red, white and blue.  We then made our own flags.

We also found out that Meghan’s favourite flowers are peonies so we made our own.

Finally we made wedding cards.

Another busy week in Reception!

This week we have continued to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly through the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
The children have ordered the life cycle and wrote all about it.
Here are some photos of the children acting out the life cycle!

On Thursday and Friday we spoke about the Royal Wedding. The children really enjoyed learning about Prince Harry and Meghan. Some children even wrote a story about their wedding! On Friday the children dressed up in red, white and blue.

Year 4 – The Royal Wedding

On Friday 18th May, Year 4 celebrated the Royal wedding by designing and creating wedding dresses and suits fit for a Prince and Princess.

We worked collaboratively to sketch our designs and discuss ideas. Then we used a range of materials to create the unique clothing.

We even used a member in our group as a real life mannequin to create the dress, or suit that was made to their measurements.

As a class we voted for the best dressed and Zariah’s group and Adam’s group won!

Jigsaw – Year 4

Celebrating my relationships with people and animals
Shared ‘The jigsaw charter’ with the children to reinforce how we work together.
Calm me
At the beginning of every jigsaw lesson we help our minds calm down so that we are ready to learn.
Asked the children to think about someone, or a pet who is special to them in their mind without saying who.
We asked the children, still thinking of that person, to write down :
• A colour that reminds them of that person e.g. green
• A word that reminds them of that person e.g. love, fun
• A symbol that them of that person /animal e.g. heart or a car, a dog shape (this can relate to a feeling or an activity)
Children then shared their thoughts with the class.
The challenge for the Children was to make a large collage that represents the people/animals they love.

Relationships- being a global citizen
Shared a PowerPoint of children around the world. Introduced he idea that many children around the world are are deprived not only of the ‘wants’ that the children in classes probably enjoy, but also of many of the ‘needs’.
Encouraged children to consider both the similarities and differences between their own lives and those of children living in the environment shown in the posters.
Asked children to consider if there is anything we can learn from children living in different circumstances to ourselves.
