This half term Years 1 and 2 have worked with the school nurse on keeping their bodies clean and healthy. They learnt about good oral hygiene and hand washing.

PHSE – Year 1

Today in PHSE we had the school nurse come in to talk to the children about hygiene and how we should wash our hands, she talked about the correct way to wash our hands making sure we wash in between our fingers.
Book Week in Year 1
This week for Book Week, we have been exploring Non-Fiction books. We became information detectives and found features of non-fiction texts. We can now use a contents page to find the imformation we need. We are going to continue our learning on non-fiction next week and find lots of information about the animals from the Gruffalo story.
Computing – Year 1
Today in computing we talked about how we follow instructions and discussed ‘what is the internet?’ We also went through all the different parts of the computer and discussed each part.
Amazing sculptures in Year 1
This week in Science and Art, we have been learning all about the famous Andy Goldsworthy and his amazing art work. He is a sculptor who creates sculptures out of natural materials. We explored his art work and looked at the different patterns and techniques that he put his art work together. We then collected our own natural materials and made our very own sculptures.

This week in 6’s and 7’s
This week in our 6’s and 7’s session we discussed getting on with other people. We talked about being kind and how to share and help others. Children also did a puppet play about sharing and being kind to others.

Autumn is here!
In Year 1, we have been exploring the season change into Autumn. The children have been interested in collecting natural objects found outside that show us that it is Autumn. A challenge was put into the science area for the children to complete. The children had the chance to sort natural and manmade objects. They are fantastic in noticing the differences between the two!

Capacity in Year 1
This week, Year 1 are learning about capacity. Students have learnt through activities with teachers and using their knowledge and vocabulary in their play. Students have explored the difference between empty and full, as well as nearly full or empty. They have also been challenged to find half full and half empty as well.
