Jigsaw – Year 2

We started today’s jigsaw lesson with the Calm Me exercise to prepare ourselves to learn.

Then we sat in a circle and played a game called ‘Switch’. A statement was read out which applied to more than one child in the circle. Those children then switched places with each other amusing them to see what they have in common with each other.

During the Open My Mind section, a washing line was fastened across one side of the class to the other. At one end we attached ‘Agree’, the other we attached ‘Disagree’ and in the middle we attached ‘Not sure’. A list of statements were read out and the children moved to the appropriate answer on the washing line.

Jigsaw – Year 1

Last Thursday we started our jigsaw lesson with the Calm Me exercise to prepare ourselves to learn.

Then we sat in a circle and played a game called ‘Switch’. A statement was read out which applied to more than one child in the circle. Those children then switched places with each other amusing them to see what they have in common with each other.

The children then were shown two pictures that had similarities. This allowed the children to focus on what is the same rather than focusing on differences.

The let me learn section of the lesson involved the children sitting pairs and identifying 3 similarities with their partner. They then used Jigsaw Jack to share these in the circle.

Jigsaw – Year 4

Everyone, including the adults took part the Calm me activity to help make sure we’re ready to learn.

The children then read through stem sentences in  their Jigsaw Journals and wrote spontaneous answers to each question.

We then took part in Tell me or show me. The children worked through a picture resource sheet.

Once the children had enough time to answer the questions, the teacher then displayed a set of pictures. Whichever group had the same pictures, had to share their answers.

Jigsaw – Year 3

Everyone, including the adults took part the Calm me activity to help make sure we’re ready to learn.

The children then listed the good/positive about things that are the same and what is good/positive about the things that are different. The children were encouraged to see difference as something to celebrate.

For Open my mind, pictures of the royal family are placed on the white board and then we asked who are they? How are they connected? Then we looked at photos of other families which showed single parents, mixed race, etc to show how families are all different.

Jigsaw – Year 5

Everyone, including the adults took part the Calm me activity to help make sure we’re ready to learn.

The children worked through their culture wheel and then compared their wheel with the other wheels in the class. This helped them to understand what cultural differences and similarities they shared.

For ‘Tell Me or Show Me’, the class was divided into 6 groups. Each were given a blank culture wheel and a picture of a child. They then completed the culture wheel as if they were the child in the picture. Every group shared their wheel and were then told that all the children in the picture lived in the UK and were British citizens.

Jigsaw – Year 2

On Thursday last week wen started our Jigsaw lesson with the Calm Me exercise to prepare ourselves to learn.

We then formed a circle and explained that Jigsaw Jo’s bag contained 2 pictures showing possible consequences of children’s behaviour.

The children, in talking partners discussed both consequences and decided if these were appropriate or not in our school, giving reasons.

Jigsaw – Year 1

Last week on Thursday in Year 1 we started with the Calm Me exercise to prepare ourselves to learn.

Then in pairs, the children took turns to read their ticket to their partner and say how they feel. Do they feel proud, pleased, happy?

They then made a list of three rewards they would like to receive when they’ve achieved something of which they are proud. These ideas will then help to create the Learning Charter.
