During health week, Year 4 focused on the abstract artwork. We discussed the different shapes and patterns we could use in the background and the range of colours we could use to make it eye catching.
We talked about different sports and created silhouettes to represent them. Have a look at our artwork and see what different sports you can spot!
Today, Year 6 took part in a inter-school competition at The Hub, in Perry Barr. It was a great morning of football and all the St Clement’s teams played well. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the finals but we had a very enjoyable morning. Man of the match was Tyler Billingham-Roberts , who was outstanding in defence and Ali Abubakr made some exceptional saves.
This week the Year 4 children were determined to make a rope swing. I supported them to find a suitable branch. They then worked together to get the rope over the branch. This involved a lot of perseverance and team work 🙂 They really enjoyed using the swing once they had finally completed it.
The Year 5 children were busy doing a variety of activities.
Some children used the loppers and the bow saw to cut down and trim some of the willow branches ready to use them for den building.
Some children used the peelers to whittle sticks and then decorated them.
Some children had a go at using the flint and steel strikers.
This week the children and adults showed a lot of interest in the ribbon twirling equipment – even Mr Burton. Trikes and bikes again were enjoyed by the children and gave them the opportunity to continue to develop their gross motor skills. We would like to thank all the families who continue to attend Stay and Play on a regular basis. You have made it what it is – a fun, engaging, welcoming, happy, educational time.
This week in Forest School all of the children learned how to use a bow saw. They listened carefully to the tools talk so that they knew how to use the saw safely. They then worked with me to cut a slice from a large branch. Some children then decorated their slice of wood.
I taught the Year 5 children how to bend willow branches into a circle. Some of the children made them in to crowns.
The Year 4 children wanted to learn how to make bracelets. I taught them a method that takes lots of concentration. You need 4 strands of wool with sticks tied on the end. You have to throw the sticks to your partner and be ready to catch theirs. The children worked really well together and made some lovely bracelets.
Another fantastic week at Stay and Play. This week we welcomed Layla to the group and celebrated Cassie’s birthday. The children enjoyed exploring and using trikes and scooters, not forgetting the fun they had developing gross motor skills on our soft play climbing area.
Come along and join the fun Wednesdays 9am – 10am. St. Clement’s School Hall.
This week saw the return of St. Clement’s Stay and Play. The children enjoyed playing, learning and exploring together. Song time was enjoyed by all, including Mr Burton. New children joined us this week and we hope to see them again.
For further details please see Miss Akers or come along, Wednesdays, 9am – 10am, in the school hall.
This week was the last Forest School session for the current groups. Finally the weather was suitable for toasting marshmallows 🙂
The children were very good at remembering the fire safety rules.
Everyone enjoyed themselves, some children discovered that burnt marshmallows are not very tasty!
When toasting marshmallows it is important to kneel in the ‘respect position’ with one knee down and one knee up. This is a stable position and it is easy to get out of the way quickly and safely if necessary.
After the marshmallow is toasted it is still very hot so we needed to blow it 20 times before we ate it!
Finally we poured water over the ashes to make sure the fire was completely out. As we did this we made a wish.
