This week in Maths, Year 1 have been learning all about the time. We have been learning to read the time by creating and drawing the hands on a clock – o’clock and half past. We know that the long hand is the minute hand and the short hand is the hour hand. We enjoyed making our very own watches and clocks, we even made a huge one in our outside classroom!

Maths Week in Year 1
This week during Maths week we have been exploring measure – length and height. We have been using the language of measure and exploring how to measure using forms of non-standard measure. We know we can measure using anything, as long as the item is the same. Take a look at all the measuring we have been doing!
The Smartest Giant in Town
In Year 1 we have been focusing on the book the Smartest Giant in Town. This week we have become authors and written our own versions of the story. We made sure we included story language and we also thought carefully about the punctuation we need to remember in our sentences.

Our amazing bodies – inside our bodies!
This week in Science, Year 1 have been exploring inside the human body. We have learnt the names of all of our important organs and their special jobs. We explored an app on the ipad called ‘Virtuali-Tee’. We had to wear a special t-shirt which showed us what our insides look like. We saw what the inside of our bodies look like!

Shapes, Shapes in Year 1!
In Year 1 we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have been learning the shape names and their properties. We have been exploring them around our environment. Shapes are all around us!
We have made our very own 3D shapes using construction and also marshmallows and mini gem sweets. Take a look at what we have made!

Year 1’s trip to the Thinktank Museum
To launch our Science topic about our amazing bodies, Year 1 visited the Thinktank museum. We explored the musuem and discovered lots of amazing things! We also were involved in an amazing bodies workshop and learnt all about senses and our internal organs. We now know some of the important organs we have in our bodies and what their special jobs are. We have learnt lots and now ready to build on our learning at school. The children behaved amazingly and have made Miss Tsang and Mrs Nizamis extremely proud!
Bonfire and Diwali fun in Year 1
It has been a really exciting week in Year 1! We have been learning about Diwali and Bonfire night. We learnt about the stories behind why they are celebrated. We also explored poetry and used our senses to write poems about fireworks and bonfire night.
We completed lots of fun activities! We made Diva lamps, firework pictures using a salad spinner and we even made our very own yummy hot chocolate!
The Animal man in Year 1
In Year 1 this week, we had a special visit from the Animal man. He brought a range of woodlands animals to meet us. We met Ben the Beetle, Speckles the Owl and Tango the corn snake. We really enjoyed learning lots of new facts about these creatures! Now, we are ready to create our very own factfiles about these animals.
Book Week in Year 1
This week for Book Week, we have been exploring Non-Fiction books. We became information detectives and found features of non-fiction texts. We can now use a contents page to find the imformation we need. We are going to continue our learning on non-fiction next week and find lots of information about the animals from the Gruffalo story.
Amazing sculptures in Year 1
This week in Science and Art, we have been learning all about the famous Andy Goldsworthy and his amazing art work. He is a sculptor who creates sculptures out of natural materials. We explored his art work and looked at the different patterns and techniques that he put his art work together. We then collected our own natural materials and made our very own sculptures.
