Year 6 Classification keys

This week in science we have looked  at classification keys. We  studied Carl Linnaeus ,who was a Swedish  scientist, who discovered a way  to classify and name all life on Earth

We studied how he did this and put  our new knowledge to the test and skilfully sorted all types of pasta into groups, looking at similarities and differences.

Year 6 Dia de Muertos

In design and technology this week, we were looking at making Dia de  Muertos as part of our ‘Hola Mexico’ topic. We had  to draw our designs onto felt and cut out two identical felt skulls. We then had to join both sides together with blanket-stitch or over-stitch. Then it was stuffed with kapok.

The skulls were decorated with sequins to replicate the Dia de Muertos

Y6 trip to Woodlands

On Monday we went to Woodlands activity centre in Streetly.  It was an action packed day full of adventure and thrills. The children were full of energy and raring to go. Activities included zip wire, canoeing, assault course and archery. The weather was kind and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was nice to see their confidence grow.

Year 6 World Cup

Today, Year 6 took part in a inter-school competition at The Hub, in Perry Barr. It was a great morning of football and all the St Clement’s teams played well. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the finals but we had a very enjoyable morning. Man of the match was Tyler Billingham-Roberts , who was outstanding in defence and Ali Abubakr  made some exceptional saves.

Year 6 Mosque Trip

On Monday 21st May Year 6 visited the local Mosque in Aston. The children have been studying Islam this term and wanted to broaden their knowledge.

The Imam was very ,very  pleased with the children’s knowledge of Islam and the children responded well to questions being asked of them.

Year 6 Preparation

Next week Year 6 are taking their SATs tests. The children have been preparing themselves and  working extremely hard. Over  the weekend the children should relax, do something nice and above all not be stressed. Hopefully the weather will be nice.

We wish the children good luck  and know they will try their very best. Don’t  forget the breakfast club on Monday.
