This week, Reception have been reading the book ‘Peace at Last’. The children have loved this story! They have been naming all the noises that kept Mr Bear awake and as a class they have written a list of them.
For our maths learning, we have been ordering our daily routines. The children have spoken about their own routines and put them into order using pictures and actions. They are able to use time words such as first, next, then, after that, etc. to describe the order.
Also, the school nurse visited us to talk about healthy eating. The children sorted lots of different food into the different food groups.
The children have also been doing lots of other learning in their play.
This week, Reception have continued to focus on the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We have spoken about how Goldilocks did not do the right things. The children then wrote a sorry letter on Goldilocks’ behalf to the three bears.
For our maths learning this week we used the characters and props from ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ to talk about position. The children learnt words to describe where something is.
Here are some photos of Reception learning through their play:
This week, we have read the story ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. The children have really enjoyed reading this story and we have made up our own actions and created a story map using Talk 4 writing. We have also used the story to help us with our maths learning. We have been sorting the bears, bowls, spoons into size order from largest to smallest.
As a class we have shared our holidays news. The children spoke about how they celebrated Christmas and what they did in the holidays. They have painted pictures of this and have also done some writing about it. We have also explored 2D shapes and have used them to create pictures.
Here are some photos of what the children have been doing this week:
I would like to say a big well done to Reception for their nativity, they were fantastic! Even though they missed out on some rehearsal time, they all worked so hard and made me very proud!
During Maths Week Reception have been reading a counting by feet book called ‘One Is a Snail Ten Is a Crab’. Reception really enjoyed this week and counting all the feet.
The children loved making footprints and counting their feet.
We painted using Numicon, counted the dots and wrote the number to match.
The children also carried out their own child-initiated maths learning.
This week in Reception, we have been learning all about the number 5. We know what the number looks like, how to count out 5 objects, how to write the number and how to make 5 in lots of different ways. The children were able to find the number 5 and 5 objects around our school environment.
On Monday Reception received a letter from the little old lady. She asked if we could help her find the gingerbread man as he ran away from her! Reception made missing posters which you may have seen around school. Luckily we found the gingerbread man just in time for when the little old lady rang us up.
Here are photos of the gingerbread man on the loose:
We also baked some gingerbread men to celebrate our success of finding him.
This week Reception have been reading the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’. They already knew the story so well! We created our own story map and then made up actions to go with it. The children have been practicing performing it and next week we will record it.
Here some photos of the children retelling the story with their actions:
This week Reception have been focusing on the book ‘Owl Babies’.
The children enjoyed listening to the story and joining in with repeated phrases. As a class we wrote the sentence ‘I want my mummy.’ which the smallest baby owl, Bill, said. The children read the sentence as a group and some even had a go at writing the sentence!
