This week Nursery haven’t let the cold weather spoil their fun outside.
We found a slug under the round table when we moved it. We watched in fascination as the slug pushed out it’s ‘feelers’ or ‘tentacles’. When we gently touched the slug the tentacles went back in.
We have been getting the large pots ready for planting. We took the weeds out of the pots. We noticed that some bulbs had already started to grow so we carefully dug around them.
The children decided that the bulbs needed some water so they headed off to the water butt, filling whatever they could find!
We have also been thinking about where to store the resources in this area of the garden. The children used the planks of wood to build a temporary shelf.
Our topic this half term has been focused all around heroes and villains and this week Green class were set a challenge to create and design their own hero or villain.
Lots of discussions were held around the qualities of a hero and also of a villain. This led to Year 3 designing their own and also naming their character. Next lesson we will be using watercolours to paint the background and then using a range of materials to collaboratively create a collage. Look out over the next few weeks to see our final pieces.
I wonder if you can guess if there will be more heroes or more villains designed by Year 3?
This week Year 1 have been looking at the story ‘Supertato’. We have been busy learning the story off by heart, re-telling the story to our friends, and becoming the characters. We now know the story off by heart and have written the story using our clever sentence writing. In art, we made a design of Supertato with a brand new cape and mask. After we created our design we made our very own Supertato!
In PHSE this week we talked about Rory and Jasmines abilities, interests and what they are learning to do.
Children had to think of the non-curriculum based things they are learning to do and feeling proud of what they are learning to do. Discussion then lead to their likes and dislikes.

During PSHE, Year 5 children have focused on thinking about the words which we use carefully. We discussed the consequences and effects of our words and how our words may affect people. A selection of children acted out a scenario, which demonstrated how our words can have a negative affect and the class made suggestions on how to use our words in a positive way.
During PSHE this week, Year 3 have looked at saving money. We discussed different ways to save money and thought about making gifts for our loved ones instead of buying gifts. We discussed how this might make our loved ones feel and what we could do with this money instead.
Year 5 have been learning about the Ancient Egyptians. They have been fascinated by mummys and the act of mummification. As an introduction to our topic and to engage the children in our learning, Mrs Webster pretended to mummify Mr Burton.
We learnt that first the brain was pulled out of the nose using a special hook. Next all of the internal organs are removed. Then the body is covered in salt to dry it out, finally it is wrapped in cloth strips.
We saw internal organs (luckily from a sheep not Mr Burton’s!) in special jars called Canopic Jars.
In RE Year 6 are learning about eternity ,including the Christian perspective on this. The question to be discussed was Does anything last forever? The children worked in groups and had statements to debate. The statements were: What lasts forever, What they would wish to last forever and In their life time what has lasted forever. This proved to be an interesting and lively discussion with many valid statements and justifications.
