Reception’s dancing!

This week, the children wanted to show their styles of dancing. We listened to a range of music and thought about how we can dance and move in different ways. We explored how fast and slow the music was to see if we needed to move quickly or slowly. We also danced outside using the ribbons.

Exploring Materials!

In Year 1, we have been exploring the best material to make an umbrella for our friend Ted. We all made predictions then performed an investigation. We explored the following materials;  foil, felt, tissue paper and plastic. We used our scientific skills to observe closely to the change of the material once water was dripped onto the material. We found out that plastic and foil were both waterproof, however later found out that foil can be easily ripped, therefore not the best material for an umbrella.

We are looking forward to making our plastic umbrella to keep Ted dry!

It’s not all straight cut in Year 5

In Year 5 some of us have been learning about different types of angles and how to measure them.  It was hard at first to use a protractor accurately, but once we mastered the protractor slide it became easier.  We also learnt the differences between acute, obtuse and reflex angles.  Why not ask your child about the different types of angles?

 

Finally we have also been learning about the total number of angles on a straight line, angles in a triangle and quadrilateral and angles around a point.  Why not ask you child to explain them?

30 Tales of Fear

This week Year 3 have been working hard to plan, tell and write their own tales of fear.  Everyone shared their ideas of possible settings for our stories and also fears. Lots of time was spent with a partner in drawing as story map and rehearsing  ideas for each of the five parts of the story.  Also, each pair listened to and made changes to their stories following peer assessment. Finishing the week on the writing of individual stories and using a checklist to make sure each paragraph had a range of  sentences and punctuation.

Miss Mcleod and myself have been astounded with the quality of writing this week. We are very proud of each and every child in Year 3. Mo Farah YOU are STAR WRITER this week 🙂

Another fun filled week in Reception!

This week Reception have looked at the story ‘Dear Zoo’, The children made actions to go with the story and can retell the story really well. We explored the different zoo animals and found out information from books. This week some children made puppets to act out their own stories with – lots of children made fairies and told great fairy stories! We have also been preparing for Mother’s Day. We made cards and did a special assembly for them. Thank you for all the mom’s that attended today. We hope you enjoyed it.

Nursery week beginning 20th March

This week in Nursery we have been thinking about our mommys in preparation for Mother’s Day on Sunday.

The children made some beautiful cards using potato prints.  All the children had a go at writing their name.  I am very proud of how well they did.

Cross Curricular science

Yesterday ,Year 6  finished their  3d model of the heart. The children had to paint and add detail to the hearts to make realistic representations.  Why don’t you ask your child to discuss their science and explain to you the functions of certain parts of this very important organ?

Year 1 at Twycross Zoo

On Wednesday, Year 1 visited Twycross zoo. We had a fun and exciting time, even with the terrible wind and the rain! We saw lots of interesting animals in their habitats. Some animals were hiding from us so, we had to look ever so carefully! Mrs Bi loved the pink, elegant flamingoes standing on one leg, and Yousaf really enjoyed seeing the penguins swimming in the water.

In the afternoon, we had a session with one of the teachers called Nicky. She taught us all about what animals eat and learnt all about food chains. We now know all about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We thought about the animals that we saw in the zoo and were able to identify what they eat. We know that lions are carnivores and zebras are herbivores. We also were so lucky to see a hissing cockroach and stroke a silky, fury chinchilla. We are now looking forward to writing all about our amazing time at the zoo!

St Clement’s In the Community

The children celebrated St Patrick’s Day in style.

With their flags waving high and wearing green, white and gold, the children attended St Clement’s Nursing Hospice on 17.3.17. They sang a range of Irish classics for the residents, who joined in and clapped along. The children then spent the afternoon playing party games and enjoying refreshments with residents and other members of the community.

Animals, including humans in Year 3

Our Science topic this half term is ‘Animals, including humans – keeping healthy’.  Our learning has so far covered what nutrition is and the different food groups.

Y3 are becoming experts in understanding what is needed for a balanced diet and also the purpose of each food group.
