This week, as part of their topic work, year 5 looked at the feudal system that was introduced into Britain by William the Conqueror. William confiscated the land in England from the Saxon lords and allocated it to members of his own family and the Norman lords who had helped him conquer the country.
We discussed the roles of each member of the feudal society and put them in order of hierarchy.
In Year 4’s PHSE lesson yesterday everyone, including the adults took part the Calm me activity to help make sure we’re ready to learn.
The children then took part in Tell me or show me. The children worked through a picture resource sheet.
Once the children had enough time to answer the questions, the teacher then displayed a set of pictures. Whichever group had the same pictures, had to share their answers through a spokesperson.
Yesterday in our PHSE lesson everyone, including the adults took part the Calm me activity to help make sure we’re ready to learn.
Then we shared the lyrics of the Jigsaw song ‘Choices’ with the children. All them to think about what sort of choices they may need to make while they are
Finally the children their idea of a dream school and a nightmare school. The children then considered where our school fits….. Is it the nightmare school or the dream school?
Yesterday we started our jigsaw lesson with the Calm Me exercise to prepare ourselves to learn.
In small groups the children were given a blank learning charter template and asked to teach a consensus on what should be on it. They filed in the rights, responsibilities, rewards, and consequences that would be most meaningful to them.
The children then returned to the circle and shared their ideas. The teacher then enabled the class to come up with one learning charter and they competed a template for this. This template will then be passed onto the school council as our class contribution towards the new learning charter.
Yesterday, everyone, including the adults took part the Calm me activity to help make sure we’re ready to learn.
The children were then put into groups of four. One child from each group then took an item from Jigsaw Jez’s bag (rugby ball, spoon, pebble, key, bag of coins, bell etc).
Their mission was to make up a new game using the item they picked. Every group then shared their games with other groups and received feedback on whether they were good or not. They then discussed whether rules are necessary to enjoy the games.
During Child Safety week Year 4 have looked at E-Safety. During the beginning of the week children looked at a range of scenario’s, discussed whether they thought each scenario was safe or not safe and shared their views as to how each scenario could be resolved.
Children have also created their own play scripts about E-safety which they later had the opportunity to perform to the class.
Year 4 children also used what they learnt during the week to create their very own E-safety posters and leaflets to help share their knowledge with others.
“I have enjoyed learning about new games which I could play on the internet and learning how to use them safety” by Basil
“I enjoyed learning new interesting facts about internet games” by Hiba
“I enjoyed making my own play script about E-safety” by Sumaya A
“My favourite part of E-safety week was when we got to look the age limits on lots of different app’s and social media sites” by Ramesah
Y3 have been focusing their learning this week on water safety. Y3 started their week with a visit from Phil, a volunteer from the Canal & River Trust https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/
He taught us why it is important to keep safe when close to rivers and canals. We worked collaboratively to spot the hazards in and around a canal and then to find out how to keep safe:
Stay
Away
From the
Edge
This visit then informed Y3’s learning over the rest of the week. Y3 had lots of fun learning more about water safety and demonstrated our new learning by creating information posters and non-chronological reports, small group drama and learning a water safety song .
In Year 2 we have been looking at how we can keep our minds healthy and safe. We have learnt and practised some breathing techniques that we can use when we feel sad, anxious or angry.
We have also been looking at how our words and actions may have an affect on how we feel about ourselves. We read a story that said we all have an imaginary bucket which is filled with happy thoughts and feelings. We can be bucket fillers by being kind to others but we might be a bucket dipper if we are mean to them.
We have looked at ways that we can be a bucket filler and the children have written lovely things about each other for our class display. Hopefully this will remind us that we are all friends and we care about each other. Come and have a look in the Year 2 classroom to read all of the lovely things we have said about each other.
This week Year 2 found some treasure arrrrrrr! However, there was a problem! It was frozen into ice!
As a class we thought of ways we would be able to rescue the treasure. We agreed that we needed it to melt so that we could free the treasure.
In our science lesson we explored lots of different ways to make the ice melt. Some of us planned what we thought and observed what happened.
Finally we managed to rescue the treasure! We found out that using the warm water helped melt the ice quickly. We also noticed that when we brushed the ice it created heat which also melted the ice.
Year 6 are busy using skills in reading to help them on their way to achieving success in the forthcoming SATs. The children are becoming more competent in recognising and referring to domains in their reading.
In maths too they are working hard and have found new confidence when measuring, calculating, and recognising angles.
Why don’t you ask your child to discuss their learning from this week? Can they discuss angles around a point?
A big thank-you to all the parents who attended parents night ,it was nice you could see and appreciate the improvements in your child’s work.
