Year 5 and 6 Residential to PGL

This was the first trip with PGL which had lots of great activities for us to do. As soon as the children got off the bus they were greeted by Emma our group leader. Once the children dropped their bags off at their room they were whisked off to get ready for raft building where they were tasked in their groups to design a raft and then test it out on the lake, which I am pleased to say that they showed great team work and all of the groups rafts floated with everyone able to take to the water. After all the fun on the lake it was time for dinner and camp fire where they sat around a fire singing songs with all the other schools on site then off to bed.

After breakfast the next morning they were split off into 3 groups where they rotated around activities such as abseiling, aero ball, climbing, trapeze and problem solving. With the day done and all packed for the trip home the children wasted no time in getting a good night’s sleep. The morning of day three was making sure we were all packed and catching up on the activities they didn’t do the day before.DSC02164 DSC02653 DSC02644 DSC02617 DSC02595 DSC02234

All in all the children had a great time and had some experiences that they wouldn’t normally get in the classroom as well as finding things about themselves that they might not have known. We look forward to next years!

Roald Dahl Week.

This week in Year 2, we have been exploring the story of The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl. We found out he was a mean crocodile who liked to eat children!

We have created lots of wonderful art based on the characters in the story. We have made our own Enormous Crocodile to sit in our reading corner along with his ‘notsobig’ crocodile friends. We have also written our own Revolting Recipe ‘Vomit Vegetables’ to feed to the crocodile so he doesn’t eat the juicy children.

We have had lots of fun learning all about the characters in Roald Dahl’s stories and dressing up as them on our Roald Dahl Day!

Welcome to Year 2!

It’s been a great start to the new school year! The children have come back to school enthusiastic and ready to learn. A big thank you to the parents for reminding your children to bring their book bags to school everyday, it’s great to hear that so many of you are reading your books everyday. A quick reminder that in Year 2, we have P.E on Tuesday and Wednesday so make sure you have your P.E kit in school on these days.

This week in our topic lessons, we have started to learn all about the Great Fire of London in 1666. The children have found out all about how the fire started in a small bakery shop and soon spread all through the streets of London. We have made some fantastic art work using lots of different and unusual materials to show the flaming fires in the streets.

Relay Racing in Y3

Our P.E. focus for this half term is athletics and this week Y3 have been learning how to pass the baton on safely during a relay race. The wonderful, sunny weather today has enabled us to take full advantage of the MUGA to run relay races and develop this new skill.
