In Year 6 this term we are making electrical circuits to light up our designs based around our topic Frozen Kingdom. This week we investigated what made a complete circuit and built our own. We were able to draw our circuits using the correct scientific symbols.

Welcome to Year 6
We have made a good start to our new term and already have written our class rules. These are important to us as they help us display good learning behaviours.
Everyday we begin with wake-up shake up ,this really gets our brains working for a good day of learning. Even Mrs Harris and Mrs Austin-Smith take part.

Y6 leavers service St Martin’s church , Birmingham
On Monday 3rd July Year 6 took part in a leavers service at St Martin’s church Birmingham. The children took part in the service with other Year 6 children from schools in the Birmingham borough. The service was led by the Bishop of Aston and the Big Assembly Singers. We provided a prayer and a poster showing ‘life in all its fullness’.
After celebrating we visited Macdonalds as a treat for lunch. Our day was fun.
Year 6 World Cultures Assembly
Year 6 performed their class assembly around World Cultures and what it meant to them. They wrote poems and represented culture through art. The children used song to represent world harmony too.
The children dressed in some of their cultural costumes. It brought a sense of belonging and understanding of ‘World Cultures’ to the children of Year 6.
Year 6 ICT
Today in computing the children had to create a script for a multiples maths game that had a time limit and it kept track of the scores.
Y6 MIRROR PLATES
We combined art and history to form the story on our mirror plates. These plates originated from Mexico, they are used to decorate both inside and outside of homes. We researched traditional Mayan and Aztec art and used ideas for the plate. We designed the plates, used tinfoil for the centre piece and etched onto the foil with felt pens. Every plate tells a story.

Year 6 Turf wars Investigation
In science this term we are carrying out various Investigations based around the science of sport. This week we looked at the conditions needed to grow the best turf for football pitches.
In groups we have taken a section turf and over the coming weeks we will have to take care of it and keep careful observations and record these. Eventually we will discuss our findings with the class.
