Jigsaw – Year 4

Shared ‘The jigsaw charter’ with the children to reinforce how we work together
Calm me
At the beginning of every jigsaw lesson we help our minds calm down so that we are ready to learn.
We played a game called ‘switch’ children sat in a circle and asked to switch places if : you’ve lost something that was important to you, you have helped somebody else find something they have lost, etc.
Read the story ‘Goodbye mousie’
Story was about a boy who lost his pet, and how he deals with this loss. Children were then asked what feeling did the boy  feel in the story? Why do you think he felt these feelings ?

Jigsaw – Year 4

Yesterday we began by calming our minds down and preparing our minds to begin learning.

In connect us, the children had to use different adjectives to describe Jigsaw Jazz. They then had to use similar adjectives to describe themselves.

For open our minds, the children had pictures of kittens and had to try and match up the kitten to its mother. This showed that it was quite random and that not every characteristic is shared with our parents.

International Week in Year 4

Year 4 had lots of fun exploring a range of different countries, cultures and artwork during International Week in school. At the start of the week during Literacy children completed research on Africa, Asia and Europe and used their knowledge on these countries to create a non-chronological report on each country.

Later on in the week, children brought something into school which they felt represented the country that they or their family were from. Children brought in a variety of different lovely things from artefacts and food to traditional clothes. Parents were also invited to take part in our session and everyone thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the international countries that our class members are from.

During the end of the week, children created some wonderful artwork and developed their creative skills by making their own African masks and artwork.

and making lots of friends in the process. A big thank you to St Michael’s and Grestone Academy for attending.

Year 4 – Science experiment

Year 4 have been learning about the human body and how to look after our teeth. We completed an experiment to investigate how different liquids effect our teeth. To represent the enamel on our teeth we used egg shells and placed them in different liquids such as, milk, water and coke. After a week, we removed the eggs shells from the  liquids to show the effects of sugar on our teeth. IMG_0475[1]IMG_0467[1]IMG_0489[1]

Jigsaw – Year 4

Yesterday in Year 4, all the children and adults sat in a circle and went through the Calm Me script to prepare ourselves for learning.

In Connect us, the children played ‘Switch’. Statements were read out and children had to switch places if they agreed with any of them or had experienced anything similar.

In Tell me or show me, the children were shown a clip about bullying. They were asked what they would do if they knew someone who was been bullied.

Think Tank – Year 4

On Monday, Year 4 visited the Think Tank to learn about the human body and the digestive system.

We took part in a workshop were we explored and discussed different parts of our bodies. We started by identifying our teeth and discussed how to keep them clean and healthy. We learnt about a healthy balanced diet and organised different items of food into the 5 key groups made up of carbohydrates, protein, milk and dairy product, fruit and vegetables and sugar and fats.

We learn that the digestive system is a pretty important part of our body. Without it, we couldn’t get the nutrients we need to grow properly and stay healthy. Next time we sit down to lunch, we’ll know exactly where our food goes from start to finish!

In the afternoon, we discovered the different areas of the science museum and we were even lucky enough to play in the fascinating science garden.
