CHILDREN CHAMPIONS

The children have voted and this years Pupil Council and UNICEF representatives have been chosen.

Together they will be called ‘Children Champions’ and will carry out a range of tasks. Firstly, they will be looking at changing the academy’s house point system and designing and calculating cost for a KS2 outdoor classroom. Whilst carrying out these jobs the Champions will also be collecting pupil voice and making sure the views of the students of St. Clements Academy are heard.

immigration proceedings, housing decisions
or the child’s day-to-day home life.

Trip, Year 4

Year 4 – Roman Trip to BMAG

Last week, Year 4 visited the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to learn about the Romans. We travelled to the museum on the train and walked to the museum.
Inside the museum, we explored the Roman artefacts and discovered ancient coins, pottery and mosaics.
After lunch, we took part in a Roman army workshop. We learnt the Latin names for a soldiers uniform, shield and sword. We also discovered how they become the strongest army of their time.
At the end of the day, we took part in a Roman parade and some of us were lucky enough to dress up as Roman characters.

Year 4 – Science Sound

On Wednesday afternoon, Year 4 investigated how sound travels using a string telephone. We discuss how the sound would travel along the string and made our scientific predictions. We investigated what happened to the sound if the string was taut and not taut.

We discovered that when the string was taut we could hear our partners much louder and clearer, but when the string was not taut we couldn’t hear what they were saying.

Peace and Love in Year 4

Welcome to Year 4! During our first week back at school, we have been discussing the fruit of the spirit and how we can show these qualities in our school life. We thought about all the ways we could show love to our friends and families and used these ideas to write a poem about the meaning of love.

Peace has many meanings and we talked about how the word can be used to mean quiet and hush as well as calm and serenity. We then wrote a recipe to achieve peace in our own hearts.

Year 4 – Plastic pollution

Year 4 have been learning about plastic pollution that is destroying our seas and oceans. We researched how plastic is becoming a huge problem all over the world and how it is killing innocent sea creatures. Using out new knowledge we have written newspaper reports to explain the growing problem and how people can help to stop plastic pollution!

Just some feedback on the extra friendship sessions that were being conducted with my children.  I have found that this is really helped them in terms of social skills, how to develop and maintain a friendship properly in school time.  The activities completed in the session hake them think about how to behave and deal with situations and more importantly think before acting!

My child has had mentoring sessions to cover how to interact with others both at home and in school.  They have helped with behaviour at home and interactions with her younger sibling. It has helped in school as well as in the classroom she is calmer, and allows the teacher time to deal with arising situations.

I have enjoyed Jigsaw this half term.  I have really enjoyed learning about growing up and how we have changed since we were a baby.

Calm me
At the beginning of every jigsaw lesson we help our minds calm down so that we are ready to learn.
Working in groups of four the children agreed on four changes they are looking forward to when they go to year 5. On their spinning top cube template, they wrote changes on the four sides of the cube. This was then cut out and made into a spinning top using a pencil as the spindle.

At the beginning of every jigsaw lesson we help our minds calm down so that we are ready to learn.
I spread out all the emotion cards into the floor. Then read out one of the scenario cards and asked the children to stand on the emotion card that best describes the emotion they feel in the situation. We then talked about how they are feeling about going into year 5 and it’s okay to feel a little nervous.
