Year 4 – Creativity week

T

This week, Year 4 have focused on the classic story The Jungle Book as inspiration for creative week.

We shared the illustrations in the book and discussed the main characters including, Mowgli, a little boy from the village raised by wolves and Baloo the bear, his faithful friend. We used our sketching skills to draw the characters to make our stick puppets.

We looked at different jungle scenes to help us draw the back drop for our theatre. Then we worked in groups of 4 to perform our show.

Year 4 – R.E

This half term Year 4 are learning about Judaism and this week we focused on the story of Hanukkah. The children listened carefully to the story and summarised the mains events. Then the children worked collaboratively in their groups to create a scene from the story using actions and dialogue.

Year 4- 2D shape

Year 4 have been learning about 2D shape and investigating the lines of symmetry using a range of regular and irregular shapes. After identifying the lines of symmetry with their partner the children used their new knowledge to think of criteria to sort their shapes accurately. Once they had thought of their criteria they sorted the shapes into a Carroll diagram, or a Venn diagram and explained to their peers why they had placed each shape.

Year 4 – Reading for pleasure

Year 4 had a fantastic start to the new year finding new books and discovering new authors. We started off looking at a  reading blanket that covered our tables in interesting new books. Then we wandered around the round to find a book that we thought looked interesting. We read our books in a comfy position using cushions, lying on the floor and relaxing on the sofa.

They travelled on their long boats across the North sea and finally arrived in Northumbria. When they spotted villages, they began to attack the settlers and destroy their homes. They stole their precious jewellery, cattle and took over their land.

Year 4 – Anglo-Saxon Workshop

On Friday 16th November, Year 4 had an Anglo-Saxon drama workshop. We acted out different events that happened during the Anglo-Saxon period in history. We learnt some new historical vocabulary such as invaders, settlers and raiders.  Also we learnt the names of some Anglo-Saxon God and Goddess. Did you know that the Anglo-Saxon’s believed in more than one god? Our special visitor used the Anglo-Saxon alphabet to predict Mahamed’s and Humayra’s future just like they did during the Anglo-Saxon times. At the end of our workshop, we acted out the famous story Beowulf, who was played by Isaiah and Ubaidullah played the role of the evil monster Grendel.

Year 4 – Estimating and measuring

Year 4 have been estimating and measuring different lengths in mm, cm and m.  On Tuesday, Austen came in to explained how measurement is used for climbing.  We discussed different climbing equipment used to keep people safe and Charlene was even lucky enough to try on a harness.

We estimated the length of different climbing ropes in centimeters and meters. Then we accurately measured them using the appropriate measuring equipment.
