In literacy we are writing adventure stories about Flat Stanley, an unfortunate boy who was squashed flat by a notice board and is now 2cm thick. To help us imagine all of the adventures he could get up to, we made our own Flat Stanley kites and enjoyed flying them around the playground.

Book Week
In World Book Week, we read Paw Prints in the Snow by Sally Grindley and based all of our literacy work around this book. We looked at the WWF website and researched other endangered animals to create a fact file. We then wrote a persuasive piece to try and persuade our class mates to adopt an animal. We are going to have a class vote to decide the winning animal. Watch this space to find out more!
At the end of the week, on World Book Day, we were lucky enough to meet Sally and learn a little more about how she creates her wonderful books.
The case of the frozen hand
Science week was very mysterious in Year 4. Mrs Harris discovered a frozen hand and asked Year 4 for help. Where had it come from? How could we return it to the Arctic without it melting?
After brainstorming ideas, we investigated the properties of materials to find which would insulate our hand and stop it from thawing. Our fair test showed which materials worked well and helped us to design an insulated delivery system for our frozen hand.
Year 4 Anglo Saxon Helmets
Year 4 Class trip to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
On Thursday Year 4 visited the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to find out more about the Anglo Saxons. When we first arrived, we headed to the Anglo Saxon gallery to try and solve the mystery of the Staffordshire Hoard. We used our activity pack to identify mystery artefacts and answer questions about what they might be. We also learnt how Anglo-Saxons relaxed by dressing up in their clothes and heading to the Mead Hall to play games. After this, we headed to the education room to take part in a history workshop. We became archaeologists and excavated artefacts from the sand to find out more.
It was a great day and we will soon be producing some fantastic writing and art work linked to our trip.

PSHE – Year 4
This week in PSHE Year 4 looked at people that we feel we can trust and talk to. Children created a ‘Helping Hand’ where they listed 5 people that they feel that they could share their thoughts or worries with. We explored the qualities that all of these people had in common. Later, we discussed different positive ways to deal with our worries.
Year 4 Class Assembly Diwali
Year 4 PSHE
During PSHE, this week, the children looked at the importance of helping others around the world. We discussed different charities and the work UNICEF does in encouraging other countries to be apart of the Children’s Rights Convention.
Article 42: Governments should make the Convention known to children and adults. The Convention has 54 articles in total. Articles 43–54 are about how adults and governments work together to make sure that all children get all their rights.

Year 4 Potions
Year 4 have been creating their own magical potions. We collected ingredients such as, troll’s slime, giant’s toenails and unicorn tears. We mixed the potion to create our own magical spell. We made spells to grow as tall as a giant, make anything you touch turn to gold, run as fast as a cheetah and fly like a Pegasus. We made labels for our potions and wrote instructions to describe how to make them.
