Creativity Week meets Hamlet

This week it has been Creativity Week at St. Clement’s. Y2 and Y3 have been working together over the week to aid smooth transition. All of our learning this week has been themed around Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Hamlet tells the story of what happens after a ghostly figure of his father appears before Prince Hamlet and tells him some dreadful truths. What will Hamlet do next? Ask Y3 or Y2 to share a summary of the main events of the story.

The week started with Y3 and Y2 ‘buddying up’ and after lots of discussion about Hamlet and castles. Each pair worked collaboratively to design a castle.

After reviewing the designs each pair then worked with clay to create a 3D model of their castle design.

Transition

Year 3 have been talking during Circle Time over the last few weeks about transition and moving to Year 4. Year 3 were able to talk and share their feelings around this sometimes difficult time of the year. A range of feelings were shared from excited and happy to anxious, worried and scared.  We discussed and decided that it is ok to have these feelings and that if we do feel this way it is important to share with a trusted adult.

Year 3 then decided to help Year 2 with their transition as they knew they would be having similar feelings. Both classes got together and Year 3 were able to answer questions from Year 2. By working in smaller groups, everyone got a chance to ask their own questions. By the end of the session everyone in Year 2 was feeling a lot happier about their move into Year 3.

Sports day

Year 2 attended sports day today at Sutton Athletic Track. They had a fantastic day cheering on their class mates and competing in events themselves. It was great to see lots of team spirit from the children and we are proud of everyone that took part and tried their hardest!

Well done!

Measuring up.

This week, Year 2 have been focusing on length.

We have been learning to measure using millimetres (mm) and centimetres (cm) and metres (m).

We have explored many everyday objects and estimated their length. Then we checked our estimations by measuring them accurately.  We also made flags for our outside area following careful instructions about measurement. DSC04331DSC04346DSC04338DSC04327

Year 2 – Rules and Staying Safe

In Year 2 we talked about rules and signs and why we have them. I explained to the children that we have rules and signs to keep us safe. I asked the children what are the safety rules at home, outside, holidays and at school.
Children had to do an interactive activity ‘safety signs’ . Children then had to complete it in pairs and discussed in pairs what each sign meant.

Year 2 know how to party!

Year 2 have worked incredibly hard to prepare for there SATs tests so we decided to have a party to celebrate all of our hard work.

There was music, dancing, games and lots of delicious food! We had such a great time dancing outside in the sunshine.

Miss Smith, Miss Shryane and Miss Akhtar are incredibly proud of all the effort that was put in.DSC04087 Well done Year 2!DSC04095DSC04091DSC04080DSC04088DSC04077

Kenilworth Castle

Year 2 have visited Kenilworth Castle as part of our fantastic castle topic. We had a brilliant day exploring all of the different parts of the castle. We learned lots about what happened in castles and imagined being alive when it was a working castle. We found out how heavy armour is, how tall the towers are and how scary the cellars are!

Year 2 were incredibly well behaved and were brilliant role models for the school – well done! DSC04432 DSC04492 DSC04493 DSC04494DSC04471 DSC04460 DSC04461 DSC04462 DSC04479 DSC04480 DSC04501 DSC05205
