This week, Year 2 have completed their SATs tests. Myself and Miss Shryane are incredibly proud of how hard the children have tried to do their best in their reading and maths papers. They have all done themselves proud and deserve a well earned rest of the coming half term.
In addition to working hard all week, it has also been Year 2’s class assembly. The children spoke clearly and confidently about Ramadan. There was acting, singing and even a costume change!
Friday 19th May Years 1 to 6 went to the Community Sports HUB to take part in sporting activities such as cricket, rounder’s, football, tennis and boxing. Everyone took part in each activity for 45 minutes. Despite the damp weather lots of fun was had by all. It was great to see all the children showing off what they had learnt in their PE lessons. The teachers have said that it was a fantastic day and great to see the children demonstrating their skill set out side of the classroom. This was great for the children’s physical development and we look forward to having more days like this next year.
Samir Y4 “My favourite sport was the tennis because we had lots of space to play which we don’t normally get in school.”
Tavani Y4 “My Favourite sport was cricket because we don’t normally play big games and I won a medal.”
Amira Y3 “I liked the football because it was really good playing on a proper grass pitch”
Reuben Y5 “Boxing was my favourite because the gym was really nice and I enjoyed using the bags.”
In Year 2 I introduced the Dot Com characters again and as a class we talked about our family compositions and who we all live with at home.
In Year 1 we talked about what people do to get ready in the morning, at home time and before bed. I chose scenarios that encourage children to be self-aware and take responsibility for themselves
In Year 1 today the children had to think about friends and why they are important – we discussed that friends have different qualities and I gave examples from own experiences. The children were able to talk about their abilities and what they felt proud of.
Year 2 – Abilities and Interests
In Year 2 today we talked about Rory and Jasmine’s abilities and interests. Children had to tell the class what they are learning to do and what they are good at. Children discussed their abilities and interests.
Year 2 have settled well into the new term and we have begun our new topic learning all about plants. We have planted some carrots, chilli, radish, indian cress and even some sunflowers!
We have become planting experts and have been writing instruction texts to tell other people how to plant their seeds ready for spring. If you have any planting questions, please direct them to any child in Year 2!
Year 2 have also been working really hard to prepare themselves for taking the SATs in 2 weeks time. Keep up the good work Year 2.
Year Two had a fantastic time at the National Sea life Centre on Wednesday. We encountered lots of different types of fish and learnt about their different habitats and diets. We saw some amazing Jelly fish, and also visited the Rock pool where we stroked a starfish and were surprised by how it felt. There were so many interesting types of sea life to look at we couldn’t decide on our favourite. Nemo and Dory were a huge hit but we will remember what the staff said about not having these types of fish in our homes. We had a fantastic day and the children (and staff) had lots of fun. We now can’t wait to make our models, pictures and do lots more research on our Beach Combers topic!
There was something a bit strange happening in Year 2 last week. Instead of a class full of lovely, well behaved children, there was a room full of PIRATES!!!!
Year 2 enjoyed dressing up and acting like pirates for the day. The children had their own pirate crew for the day and tried to win points for their crew. Together they sang their own sea shanties by exploring how to make music using water and glass jars. We found out that we could make a low pitched sound if the jar was full of water and a high pitched sound it if was less full.
Later the children took part in their very own treasure hunt! They were searching for scrolls of information. If they could answer the question on their scroll they got a gold coin that they could exchange for some treasure!
We have been learning about the story of Grace Darling in our topic lessons. We found out that she lived in a lighthouse and watched out for ships that might be in trouble. One stormy night she saw a boat had hit some rocks and had begun to sink. Grace called her dad for help and the two of them went out to see in their little canoe boat, even though the weather made it very dangerous. Grace and her dad managed to save 9 crew members who they brought back to their lighthouse and looked after until the morning.
Year 2 have been acting out the events of that evening and we have been discussing how brave and kind Grace Darling and her dad were.
In PHSE we read the story of dots special secret and I talked about secrets and how we can have secrets and explaind that secrets can feel and be safe or unsafe.
I gave children various scenarios of safe and unsafe secrets.
