Year 1 have worked extremely hard with their phonics and reading. They completed their phonics check this week. We had a little surprise to treat the children for their hard work and perseverance.
Well done Year 1!
Today in Year 1, we had our Phonics workshop for parents. The children were confident to show the parents how fantastic they are at phonics. We showed the parents how we read words by looking for digraphs and sounding out the words. Then the parents joined us for lots of phonics activities and we had lots of fun!
In Year 1 we have been learning all about Judaism. We wrote non-chronological reports and made posters about the ten commandments. We also learnt about a special festival called Shavout and made ice cream out of bags! We really enjoyed printing in art, where we looked at different symbols that represent Judaism and used paint to transfer it onto paper. We have had a really fun week and look forward to adding all of our work into the Into-faith big book for you all to see!
Year 1 have been learning all about Buddhism. We have read many stories about the Buddhists and their special practices. Today we performed the story of the Buddha to the whole school and our parents.
Pictures to follow
In Year 1, we have been learning about the different types of trees. We went on a tree hunt and explored the different leaves each tree has. We now know the scientific names that we can sort trees into. We know that the trees that the leaves fall off and grow again are called deciduous and that evergreen trees, the leaves stay green all year round!
What trees can you find?
Last Thursday in Year 1 we began by calming our minds down and preparing our minds to begin learning.
In tell me or show me, the children were shown a clip of spawn growing to frogs, which showed frogspawn and later a frog that the children find. The children were asked how the frogspawn turned into battle frog? What happens and in what order?
