In Nursery the children are becoming more independent. They use their imagination. They are able to choose the resources they need and use tools and equipment by themselves. They ask for help if they need it. Look at some of the wonderful things they have made this week.
Nursery have really enjoyed reading Keep out! Bears About!
We were very excited to meet the author, Sally Grindley in a special Book Day assembly on Thursday.
Also on Thursday we were able to dress up as our favourite characters. There were lots of super heros in Nursery that day!
To finish book week Year 5 came to share a story with us. The Nursery children chose a story and the Year 5 children read it to them.
We then finished off with the Nursery children telling Year 5 one of our favourite stories We’re going on a bear hunt. It was really lovely to hear the Year 5 children joining in too.
In Nursery the children do lots of activities to get their hands and fingers ready for writing.
Some children make marks on paper and tell us what is says. Some children are starting to copy letters. Some children are learning to write their name.
This week Nursery haven’t let the cold weather spoil their fun outside.
We found a slug under the round table when we moved it. We watched in fascination as the slug pushed out it’s ‘feelers’ or ‘tentacles’. When we gently touched the slug the tentacles went back in.
We have been getting the large pots ready for planting. We took the weeds out of the pots. We noticed that some bulbs had already started to grow so we carefully dug around them.
The children decided that the bulbs needed some water so they headed off to the water butt, filling whatever they could find!
We have also been thinking about where to store the resources in this area of the garden. The children used the planks of wood to build a temporary shelf.
The Nursery children have been showing our new children how we do things at St Clement’s Academy.
We have been thinking about our class rules and routines. We have been showing the new children how we listen carefully, we are kind and helpful, we are gentle and we look after property.
We have also been thinking about ways we learn. We have some dinosaur characters that help us with this:
Tryatops – does his best and never gives up.
Explorosaur – explores everything around her and asks questions to find things out.
I have been very impressed with how the children having been trying to be like these dinosaurs.
Our story of the week has been Norman the slug with the silly shell.
This is a funny story about a slug who wants to be a snail. He doesn’t have a shell so he goes off to find one. He decides a doughnut makes a great shell but unfortunately Norman is not the only one who likes doughnuts!
The children really enjoyed this story. It was lovely to see them listening so well and laughing at the funny parts.
This week we also started getting ready for Christmas. We have been practising our Christmas songs and we are really looking forward to singing them for our mums and dads next week.
We have also decorated the tree and the classroom is looking festive!
As usual we have also been busy learning through our play. Here are some photos to show you some of the things we have been doing:

Playing in the home corner
