Jigsaw – Year 6

The children were shown images that showed airbrushing. The children were asked to comment on what they see, which image they prefer and how they brink the girl in the picture sees herself. They were then shown images of celebrities before and after airbrushing.

In tell me or show me,  the children were asked to write as many words as they could that described their real self onto the real self image template. The then highlighted the words that were related to body image. The children were then asked to reflect on the importance of body image as part of their overall self image.

Jigsaw – Year 5

Yesterday in small groups the chosen sorted the self image cards into either the happy face or the sad face according to their perceptions. The topic of celebrity and body image was brought up, the wet discussed things like airbrushing etc.

In tell me or show me, the children used the words from the self image sheet, and cut out the words that they think described their internal picture. Next to each word the children had to put a smiley face or sad face depending on how they perceive that word. We then looked at the balance between smiley and sad faces.

Jigsaw – Year 2

To stay with, all the children and adults sat in a circle and went through the Calm Me script to prepare ourselves for learning.

We then played the ‘Moving Machines’ game. This game showed the importance of every member of the group and their contribution even though everyone’s role is different.

Finally the children were shown scenario cards and were asked to act out each scenario. Once all the children had acted out their scenario, they were asked why they thought bullying was believing in each of the scenarios?

Jigsaw – Year 1

We showed the children two pictures and asked which one is the bully. The first picture was of a big bully-looking character, the second was of a 5-6 year old. This showed a bully doesn’t have to look a particular way.

In Connect us, the children played Huggy bears. When the teacher called out “Huggy heard – three” children hugged each other in groups of three. This reinforced how it feels to be part of a group.

For Tell me or show me, the children had to share their ideas on what they thought a bully is like. All the children had student ideas on what bullying is.

Jigsaw – Year 4

Yesterday in Year 4, all the children and adults sat in a circle and went through the Calm Me script to prepare ourselves for learning.

In Connect us, the children played ‘Switch’. Statements were read out and children had to switch places if they agreed with any of them or had experienced anything similar.

In Tell me or show me, the children were shown a clip about bullying. They were asked what they would do if they knew someone who was been bullied.

Jigsaw – Year 3

Yesterday in Year 3 all the children and adults sat in a circle and went through the Calm Me script to prepare ourselves for learning.

In Connect us, the children played ‘Switch’. Statements were read out and children had to switch places if they agreed with any of them or had experienced anything similar.

In Tell me or show me, the children were shown a clip about bullying. They were asked what they would do if they knew someone who was been bullied.

Jigsaw – Year 6

Yesterday the children were asked to complete stem sentences and disabilities. This made the children appreciate what disabled people have to go through.

They were then shown a clip about twin brothers who both have cerebral palsy. The children the reflected on how theoretical disability affected their daily lives. The children were then asked to write a list of questions regarding their disability.

Jigsaw – Year 5

Yesterday the children were told a scenario about a girl moving to a new school. She doesn’t really have any friends and another group of girls are being horrible to her. The girl then starts to receive nasty text messages and starts to feel lonely and sad.

In groups of two, the children are asked whether or not they feel she is being bullied or not? And why? We emphasised that bullying is not just physical but can also be verbal. It can happen online and in person.

Jigsaw – Year 2

We started today’s jigsaw lesson with the Calm Me exercise to prepare ourselves to learn.

Then we sat in a circle and played a game called ‘Switch’. A statement was read out which applied to more than one child in the circle. Those children then switched places with each other allowing them to see what they have in common with each other.

During the Open My Mind section, we showed pictures of children’s duvet covers. We then labelled second of the classroom as Boys, Girls and Both. The children had to move the label they think the duvet belongs to.
