Rhyming in Nursery

The Nursery children have been learning about rhyming words.

Our story of the week has been ‘Duck in the Truck’ .

The children really enjoyed the story and by the end of the week were very good at completing the sentence with the rhyming word.

We have also been singing a song about silly soup.  The soup is made of rhyming words, like jug, bug and rug.  What a strange soup!

Every week the children in Nursery do such a wide variety of things.  Here are a few pictures of some of the things that we have done this week.

Forest School news 2nd February

Lots has happened this week.  Some children have been busy making bird feeders and an insect hotel to help encourage more wildlife to the area.

The girls worked as a team to tie the bamboo sticks together and them put them inside the bug hotel.

The insect hotel is looking great so far!  I think the insects will love it.

We took delivery of some willow which is going to be used to make a willow dome.  Watch this space to see the finished product!

Some other children used clay and natural materials to make faces and creatures.  We then put these in the trees.

Peace at Last!

This week, Reception have been reading the book ‘Peace at Last’. The children have loved this story! They have been naming all the noises that kept Mr Bear awake and as a class they have written a list of them.

For our maths learning, we have been ordering our daily routines. The children have spoken about their own routines and put them into order using pictures and actions. They are able to use time words such as first, next, then, after that, etc. to describe the order.

Also, the school nurse visited us to talk about healthy eating. The children sorted lots of different food into the different food groups.

The children have also been doing lots of other learning in their play.

Take a look at some of our photos from the week:

Year 5 – Art

Year 5 created a picture of a flower by sketching out a flower and colouring the drawing roughly, adding more details as they went along. They needed to add more layers of colours to blend them together to produce their painting. They used oil pastels to create their painting and used their fingers as a method for blending.

Maths in Year 6

During last week, Year 6  were looking at using measures in their  maths. They were converting different measures and solving problems involving measures.  It was key to read the problem, convert to same measures, and use  known strategies to solve the calculations. Remembering to revert to the original measure.

Y3 visit the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick

On Tuesday, year 3 went on a train to visit the Guru Nanak Gurdwara because we are learning about Sikhism.

GNG

First, we went to the train station by foot and carefully hopped on the train. It took about 30 minutes to get to our destination. We walked over to the Gurdwara that was right across the road. When we arrived we had to take off our shoes and wash our hands.

Then we met our tour guide, who was very welcoming. She showed us upstairs and showed us a video about the 5k’s. The 5k’s are the Sikhs’uniform that they wear everyday and when they go to the Gurdwara. Sometimes because of what they wear and carry, they get questioned.

Afterwards, we went back downstairs to see where they put their holy book. It was hidden in a small bed that looked beautiful and shiny. Then our class went to the Langar hall and ate food.  Each Gurdwara serves food for free to people every day. Some people said the food was yummy and delicious but I didn’t enjoy it that much because it was too spicy for me.

Finally, we went back to where we had to put on our shoes. We left the Gurdwara in peace and went back to the train station then arrived at school in the early afternoon.
