Colour poems in Year 3

Year 3 have been developing their adventurous vocabulary and using this to write imaginative poems.

First, we collaborated to come up with ideas and improve the vocabulary we use. We then read some good examples and learnt from them.

We then used everything we have learnt to write our own!

Forest school

This week, Year 2 were lucky enough to be taken out for their first lesson in our fantastic forest school area.

Mrs Grant paid us a visit and took the children out to explore. The children were given a tricky task, The Gruffalo needed a new house! The children soon got busy thinking about all of the things that the children would need to be comfortable and safe. They all showed fantastic imagination and were able to learn new skills and use what was available to build amazing houses for The Gruffalo. One group even made him some toys to play with!

The children really enjoyed their first forest school experience and are excited that they will be able to do more when they go into KS2 next year. They were all well behaved and showed off their fantastic team building and communication skills. Well done!

Forest school in Year 1

This week in Year 1, we had a fantastic opportunity to explore the forest area with Mrs Grant. The children created bird’s nest for all the little birdies that visit our forest school area. It was especially challenging as we had to use tweezer to create our bird’s nests. We used all the natural materials we could find.

Take a look at our creations!

Year 6 Leavers Service

On Monday, Year 6 took part in the Leavers service in St Martin’s Church,Bullring, Birmingham.

The children had to share in a service with other children from Year 6 classes through out the borough. They  celebrated differences and being accepted for who they are. Each child had to make a name card  and glasses that reflected their personality.

We had a picnic lunch on return from the church.

Health week in Year 1

Year 1 have had an amazing week learning all about keeping healthy. We have learnt all about keeping our bodies healthy by eating well and exercising ofte,  but also how to look after our teeth and our minds.

Year 1 and Year 2 joined together for some activities which we all really enjoyed! We also hosted a parent workshop all about health. We all worked so hard and received certificates to show how fantastic we are!

Reception’s trip to the Nature Centre!

Today Reception went to visit the animals at the Nature Centre in Edgbaston. We saw monkeys, meerkats, parrots, lemurs, wallabies, goats, snakes and many more animals. The children loved seeing the different animals and enjoyed playing in the play area after. Throughout the week we will be researching about the animals we saw and will write some facts about them.
Well done to Reception for behaving so well on our trip and representing St. Clement’s really well!

Health Week in Reception

During ‘Health Week’ we covered lots of different areas of being health. We discussed exercise, how it makes us feel and the effects it has on our bodies. We did different exercises outside. We spoke about healthy eating and the children wrote healthy and unhealthy lists and sorted different foods. We also had a parent workshop during the week and the children made a healthy sandwich with their parents and carers. We were really proud of the children for trying lots of different foods!

St. Clement’s 1:1 Mentoring – Parent Voice

Just some feedback on the extra friendship sessions that were being conducted with my children.  I have found that this is really helped them in terms of social skills, how to develop and maintain a friendship properly in school time.  The activities completed in the session hake them think about how to behave and deal with situations and more importantly think before acting!

Thanks, Mum

My child has had mentoring sessions to cover how to interact with others both at home and in school.  They have helped with behaviour at home and interactions with her younger sibling. It has helped in school as well as in the classroom she is calmer, and allows the teacher time to deal with arising situations.

1:1 sessions have helped improve our child’s overall attitude towards others especially at home.  We are thankful for the time spent talking with her and giving her techniques that seem to be helping.

We read a book about how to make sure your teeth stay clean.  We also sang a song called ‘Brush your teeth’.  We then made our own information books about brushing teeth.

We read a book called ‘Sometimes I feel sunny’.  We talked about our feelings and looked at expressions.  We talked about what makes us sad and what makes us happy.  We sang ‘If you’re happy and you know it’
