This week Green class completed their diva lamps by choosing bright, eye catching colours of paint to enhance their clay work.
Flower heads inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe
During our topic lessons this week we have been making flower heads inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. We initially planned our designs then we used wire to make the outline then attached the petals using wire. The next step was to add tissue paper to the frame to create colourful petals.
Persuasion and Problems in Year 5
This week, Year 5 have been developing their skills at persuasive writing. We have based it around our topic work on evacuees in World War 2 and have written a letter to parents persuading them to evacuate their children to a safer environment.
We rehearsed new sentence types to a develop our writing skills.
Then we selected vocabulary that would enhance our work.
In Maths we studied how to find the area and perimeter of shapes. On Friday we put our knowledge to the test by solving multi step word problems.
We worked in groups and earned points on how we worked together, the way we explained how we solved the problem and if we got the answer correct.
A fun packed week in Reception!
This week, Reception have done lots of exploring through play. Some children were going on a bus, then going to a funfair and the cinema, whilst others were making stairs for a slinky! We’ve been exploring conkers and making lots of beats with various musical instruments.
Chicken Licken, playdough and turn taking!
Chicken Licken
In Nursery this week the children have enjoyed listening to the story of Chicken Licken. They have been practising rhyme by remembering the names of the characters in the story. The children are now able to join in with the repeating phrases with great enthusiasm!
Playdough
The children enjoy playing with the playdough and it is great for developing their fine motor skills. This week the children noticed that the playdough had become very sticky. We decided to make some more. We talked about the ingredients needed and took turns to mix everything together. The children enjoyed using the playdough when it was still warm and used lots of great vocabulary.
Turn taking
It is very difficult to take turns when you are only three! This week the children all wanted a turn on the interactive whiteboard. We talked about taking it in turns and I suggested that the children used the sand timer to help. With a little encouragement they did really well.
School Council
The School Council, met this week, to discuss and feedback on the work they have been doing regarding lunchtimes. The children collected the opinions of pupils and staff and were able to voice ideas from Early Years to Year 6.
Article 12: Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously.
The main points discussed were lunchtime play equipment, lunches and lunchtime clubs.
After half term, the children will arrange meetings with Mr Ricketts and Aspens Food Service to discuss the ‘wants’ expressed by the children of St Clement’s Academy.
The School Council
Year 5 PSHE
This week, during PSHE, the children looked at difference and living together. They were able to discuss, in groups, the work carried out by Nelson Mandela and how he dreamed of a rainbow nation. Together, the children answered questions, which helped them to think about how we live as a community and the importance of being tolerant and understanding of others.
Article 30: Every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family, regardless of whether these are shared by the majority of the people in the country where they live.

Year 4 PSHE
During PSHE, this week, the children looked at the importance of helping others around the world. We discussed different charities and the work UNICEF does in encouraging other countries to be apart of the Children’s Rights Convention.
Article 42: Governments should make the Convention known to children and adults. The Convention has 54 articles in total. Articles 43–54 are about how adults and governments work together to make sure that all children get all their rights.

Year 3 PSHE
The class reader this week was Ria.
This week, during PSHE the children looked at how we live and work together. They were able to think of how and why it is important to be understanding of others. Working in groups, the children discussed the meaning of a faith and how there are many different faiths in the school, community, country and world.

Autumn is cancelled!
Year 1 received a new article explaining that Autumn has been cancelled this year. We decided to explore this further, we spoke about what we knew about Autumn and read lots of non-fiction books to find out more information. We were worried about Autumn not appearing this year, so we wanted to ask for help to find Autumn. The children decided to write Missing poster to ask for help.

We then became Autumn detectives and went for a walk around the school grounds to see if we could find any signs of Autumn. Take a look at what we found!
