We have been learning about the Christmas story in R.E and the children did some fantastic writing to retell the story. They were able to sequence pictures of the events and we even spotted Christmas symbols that are important to Christians in the story such as the star and the gifts from the wise men.
We have been learning about non-fiction in English and writing facts about Autumn and Winter. In Maths we have been learning number bonds/ pairs to make 10. The children have written them down systematically to check they have all the number pairs and finding missing numbers in number sentences. Super work Year One!
We have also made mats and hats for our Christmas lunch on Monday!
Year 1 are learning about our local environment – Nechells in Geography. We have been learning about physical and human features and how to ask geographical questions. We know that physical features are features that are natural and human features are features that are man-made. On our walk to the Post Office, we noticed lots of human features; houses, shops, road sign etc. We are going to learn some mapping skills and create a map for Mrs Ali to show her how to get back to school from the Post Office.
This week we have been busy learning about the weather in Autumn and looking out for the weather of the day. We watched weather forecasts and had a go at doing our own weather forecasts using weather language we have learnt such as; frosty, misty, foggy, cold, rain etc.
We have been retelling the story of Plop. The Owl that was afraid of the dark by Jill Tomlinson. Today we rewrote the story in our books using punctuation and story language we have learnt throughout the week. We even learnt how to use exclamation marks and question marks! Well done Year One!
We have also been learning how to show numbers in different ways.
This week Year 1 took part in forest school with Mrs Grant. We were shown how to be safe around a fire. We used our senses to describe what we could see, hear, smell, feel and taste. It helped us to create some superb Firework Poems. We enjoyed tasting hot chocolate!
