Reception’s first week at school

Reception have had a fantastic first full week at St Clements! They have all settled in really well and are getting familiar with our rules and routines and exploring our fantastic new environment! The children have really enjoyed learning inside and outside, making new friends and singing new songs. We have also had lot’s of fun learning about Roald Dahl and the Enormous crocodile. All of the children created their own crocodile masks.IMG_0115IMG_0674 IMG_0672 IMG_0666 IMG_0138 IMG_0130 IMG_0129 IMG_0124 IMG_0121 IMG_0115 IMG_0109

Carnival Preparation in Reception!

This week, we have been busy preparing for a special Brazilian carnival on Friday. We have used our imagination and creative skills to create things to wear and use for the carnival. We have made flags, shakers, masks and a head dress to wear during the carnival! We have been able to explore lots of different techniques to create our wonderful art work!

Take a look at the busy things we have been doing…

Reception’s sea turtles!

In Reception we have been exploring different sea creatures as part of our seaside topic. We looked at the life cycle of a sea turtle and learnt all about the different stages of their life and how they grow. We found out that sea turtles can lay up to 200 eggs! The children made information booklets about the life cycle which included some fantastic writing.

Starfish Symmetry

We have been following on our maths learning based around Symmetry. We have been exploring Symmetry through lots of different ways, and we are having lots of fun!

We have also been finding lots of information about sea creatures, and the Starfish has been one of our favourites. So, we decided to make some yummy Starfish biscuits. We had to follow a set of instructions, and made sure we had the correct amount of the ingredients.  Once they were ready, we then decorated them. We had to make them symmetrical and we knew that they needed to be the same on both sides.

Reception receive a message in a bottle!

This week in Reception, a bottle appeared on the table in our classroom! The children predicted where they thought it might have come from, and who could have sent it. They had lots of wonderful ideas! Some thought it might be a treasure map sent by a pirate, and others thought it might be a message from Tiddler the fish.

The children helped Miss Tsang read the letter, and found out it was from our friend Pearl from Bonnie Cove. She wanted us to tell Nori about all the things that we can find in the sand. We wrote letters back to Pearl, and we also asked her nicely, if we can visit Bonnie Cove again!

Language alive – Nori in Reception

This week Reception had a visit from a beachcomber, all the way from a seaside resort called Bonnie Cove. Pearl the beachcomber invited us to Bonnie Cove to help her search for hidden treasures in the sand. We helped her dig and sieve the sand and found all sorts of different things; gems, shells, and even diamonds!

We then met another person hiding at Bonnie Cove her name was Nori, but she could not speak the same language as us. She told us her story of how she ended up at Bonnie Cove.

Reception had to get their clever brains working to think of different ways for Pearl and Nori to become friends. The children thought of so many lovely ways for Pearl and Nori to communicate.

We would love to visit Bonnie Cove again!
