Jigsaw – Year 1

Last Thursday in Year 1 we began by calming our minds down and preparing our minds to begin learning.

In tell me or show me, the children were shown a clip of spawn growing to frogs, which showed frogspawn and later a frog that the children find. The children were asked how the frogspawn turned into battle frog? What happens and in what order?

Sunflowers in Year 1

In Year 1 in Science, we have planted our very own sunflowers. We have learnt about what things we need to help plants grow healthily. We know that plants and flowers need sunlight, warmth, water and care to help it grow the best it can.

We are going to take it home as part of our home school project and record the progress of the growth.

Who’s sunflower is going to be the tallest?

The start of the Summer term in Year 3

What an exciting start to the new term! Year 3 spent a day this week at Woodlands Adventure activity centre. Everyone had the opportunity to take part in archery, canoeing, zip wire and the assault course.

Year 3 demonstrated perseverance, resilience, collaboration whilst overcoming their fears, especially at the top of the zip wire tower The children were fantastic ambassadors for the Academy and can not wait to return.

Reading Together

Today in Reception we held our first Reading Together session. We will continue to do this session every Friday.
It is a chance for parents and carers to read to their child and change their library book.
Thank you to everyone who came along today. The children absolutely loved it!

We hope to see you again next Friday.

Growing in Year 2!

Welcome back to Year 2!

This is a very important term for Year 2, with SATs swiftly approaching, and they have all come back to school with their learning heads on. Well done we!

We have begun learning about our new topic of plants. Not only have we been finding out about plants, how they grow and what we use them for, but we have also been finding out how to plant seeds and care for them.

We planted some sunflowers and found out they could be yellow, dark red or orange. We also learned that the tallest sunflower ever grown was over 9m tall! WOW!

Here are some pictures of Year 2’s new gardeners.

Jigsaw – Year 3

Yesterday the children began by paying a game in pairs. Each child had a card with a baby on it. 2 cards shared the same image. The children were asked to find their pair and sit with them. They were then asked to think about one thing that could happen to their baby while they turned into an adult.

In open my mind, the children were shown pictures of babies. The children were asked to their feelings about the pictures. They were then shown a couple of slides of mother and baby. The children were told that usually mothers look after the baby while it’s young, but often the males can also have an important role to play.

Jigsaw – Year 4

Yesterday we began by calming our minds down and preparing our minds to begin learning.

In connect us, the children had to use different adjectives to describe Jigsaw Jazz. They then had to use similar adjectives to describe themselves.

For open our minds, the children had pictures of kittens and had to try and match up the kitten to its mother. This showed that it was quite random and that not every characteristic is shared with our parents.

Jigsaw – Year 6

The children were shown images that showed airbrushing. The children were asked to comment on what they see, which image they prefer and how they brink the girl in the picture sees herself. They were then shown images of celebrities before and after airbrushing.

In tell me or show me,  the children were asked to write as many words as they could that described their real self onto the real self image template. The then highlighted the words that were related to body image. The children were then asked to reflect on the importance of body image as part of their overall self image.
