Gingerbread Man on the loose!

On Monday Reception received a letter from the little old lady. She asked if we could help her find the gingerbread man as he ran away from her! Reception made missing posters which you may have seen around school. Luckily we found the gingerbread man just in time for when the little old lady rang us up.

Here are photos of the gingerbread man on the loose:

We also baked some gingerbread men to celebrate our success of finding him.

Anti Bullying Week at St. Clement’s

As part of Anti Bullying Week the UNICEF children’s committee delivered a whole school assembly. They looked at articles 5,12,13 and 14. The children gave examples of different types of bullying, ways to report it, the effects and lots of other important information. The assembly finished with a whole sing/dance along to ‘Bars and Melody – Hopeful.’

Article 5: Governments should respect the rights and responsibilities of families to direct and guide their children so that, as they grow, they learn to use their rights properly.

Article 12: When adults are making decisions that affect children,
children have the right to say what they think should happen and have their opinions taken into account.

Article 13: Children have the right to get and share information, as long as the information is not damaging to them or others. In exercising the right to freedom of expression, children
have the responsibility to also respect the rights, freedoms and reputations of others.

Article 14: Children have the right to think and believe
what they want and to practice their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Parents should help guide their children in these matters.

The school nurse also visited each year group to discuss the impact of bullying on a persons health, where to go for support and coping strategies – to build resilience.

In classes, children took part in circle times and whole class discussions to deeper their understanding. The School Council took time to look over the schools ‘Anti Bullying’ Policy and give their opinions and make any changes.

Throughout the week the message has been clear – At St. Clement’s we are a family who cares, respects and shows tolerance to each other. To quote the children’s words from the UNICEF assembly, “We are proud of to be apart of the St.Clement’s family because we show care and respect for all people.”

Shapes, Shapes in Year 1!

In Year 1 we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have been learning the shape names and their properties. We have been exploring them around our environment. Shapes are all around us!

We have made our very own 3D shapes using construction and also marshmallows and mini gem sweets. Take a look at what we have made!

What 3D shapes can you see? What 2D shapes can you see?

Year 6 go back in time at the Black Country Living Museum….

Today Year 6 visited the Black Country Living Museum as part of our Victorians topic.

We followed the trail of two Victorian children, a rich child called Harry and a poor child called Lillian.  We visited examples of the typical houses of where they would have lived and were able to make interesting comparisons between them.  Some of the children got to travel on the trolley bus which they found exciting and we all got to see a live chain making demonstration.

Overall an amazing day out and the children were a credit to St. Clement’s.

Junk Puppies

This week things took an unexpected turn for Year 3 with a visit from one of the most infamous villains in children’s fiction – Cruella de Vil! She requested that Year 3 found her more puppies and quickly! So they came up with a cunning plan to trick her by designing and making puppies from junk.

After exploring the mountains of junk (plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, tubes and plastic cups) Year 3 created a labelled design and then worked collaboratively with a friend to build a puppy.

Year 5 Remembrance assembly

This week Year 5 have been working hard to prepare a Remembrance assembly. Children not only prepared speeches explaining the history of Remembrance Sunday and the significance of the poppy, but also took the school back in time to meet characters from WW1. In this way, they were able to help children think more deeply about the effect of war and the impact on real lives.

It was a thoughtful occasion and the children did incredibly well, learning their speeches and poetry and presenting their work with clear and confident voices.

Baking in Nursery

This week in Nursery we started to learn how to make cakes independently.  We are using a method where we have to balance all the ingredients.

First we had to make a shopping list of the ingredients we needed.

Mrs Grant brought the ingredients in the next day and we were ready to balance them.

First we had to balance two eggs with the flour.

Then we balanced the two eggs with the sugar.

Next we balanced the two eggs with the butter.

Finally we mixed all the ingredients together.

We had to pour the ingredients in to the baking tin and then Mrs Grant put it in to the oven.

When it was ready we all tasted it, it was delicious!

Year 4 trip to the Roman Lunt Fort

On Monday, Year 4 visited the Roman Lunt Fort to learn new and interesting facts about the Romans. When we arrived at the fort, we had to use a secret password to enter.
During our visit, we learnt about life as a Roman solider and their many different duties.
Codie was lucky enough to try on the Roman body armour, helmet and shield and we also learnt what they were called in Latin.
In the afternoon, we learnt how to fight like a real Roman solider. We used a wooden shield and sword to attack the rotten Celts!
