Talk 4 Writing in Year 4

This week in Year 4 we have began our week by learning to orally retell a fantasy story. We used actions to help us remember the story and spoke with expression. On Wednesday, we learnt how to read as a reader and discussed great words and phrases that the writer had used.

Look out for our own fantastic fantasy stories next week!

6’s and 7’s

In this week’s 6’s and 7’s session we talked about each of us being a special, growing person with personal strengths on which to build. We looked at how we are alike and also learnt that each of us is unique.
Children drew pictures of themselves doing something they are good at. These activities helped the children to get to know each other and become comfortable working together as a group.

Making a mummy in Year 5

Year 5 had a great start to their topic with a visit to Birmingham museum and art gallery.

The children learnt to mummify a pharoah by taking out his organs and wrapping him tightly in bandages. They also had a chance to visit the Egyptian gallery and sketch real mummies.  There will be lots of work linked to this in the topic and art lessons over the next half term.

Welcome to Year 6

We have made a good start to our new term and already have written our class rules. These are important to us as they help us display good learning behaviours.

Welcome back Y3

What an exciting start to the new school year. There have been lots of new and different things for Year 3 to get used to. From having their own lockers, an upstairs classroom, new teachers, a later break and lunchtime, and also buying their own fruit.  Everyone is getting used to the new routines. Please talk to your child about these changes and if there are any worries or questions please raise them with either Miss Groom or Miss Spoor.

Our new topic for this half term is called Tribal Tales where Year 3 will be learning all about changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. This week the class have been formulating questions to guide our research.

SPOILER alert! Next week Y3 will be taking part in a Stone Age learning experience day in their classroom on Friday. First taking on the role as an archaeologist and then having a go at grinding flour and weaving just like Stone Age people.

Loving our pastures new in Year 2!

What a fantastic start to Year 2!

This week the children have begun their Year 2 journey. They have settled straight into new routines and already shown off their fantastic learning behaviour.

Our topic this term will be ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures’ where the children will explore how different materials change as they combine and observe what happens. A key investigation will be exploring as water changes to ice and ice melts back into water.

In our first topic lesson, we investigated how to make the best bubble mixture. We decided in our groups what materials we were going to use to make our bubble mixture. Many children chose soap, water and sugar as their mixture. Then we tested our bubbles by blowing through a straw or whisking with a fork.

We found out that the biggest bubbles were made by using washing powder, washing up liquid, water, sugar and blowing through a straw.

Check out the bubbles that we made! Ask your child if they can explain what their group did to make bubbles. DSC05068 DSC05064 DSC05073 DSC05048 DSC05045 DSC05055 DSC05049
