Year 1’s Class Assembly

Today, Year 1 performed their class assembly to the whole school and to the parents. The assembly was about Noah’s Ark and the special promise that God made to the world. The narrators and the children with speaking parts spoke loudly and beautifully for everyone to hear. All the children tried really hard and all the teachers are very proud of them!

Well done Year 1!

We’re going on a shape hunt

This week in maths, Year 2 have been exploring shape and symmetry.

Some of us have been on a shape hunt searching for what 2D and 3D shapes we can find in our environment. We have found footballs that are spheres, plant beds that are cuboids and windows that are rectangles.  DSC03100 DSC03088DSC03107 DSC03103 DSC02762 DSC02763

We have also explored symmetry and finding the mirror image of patterns pictures. We have created our own symmetrical patterns using paint, loom bands and peg boards. Then we tried to find the line of symmetry on 2D shapes. This was tricky because we had to be really accurate and precise!

The wonders of RE

Could Jesus really heal people?

Today we looked at the miracle of healing of the paralysed man.

To help us understand the story more we used role play.

Nursery welcome new children

The Nursery children have been showing our new children how we do things at St Clement’s Academy.

We have been thinking about our class rules and routines.  We have been showing the new children how we listen carefully, we are kind and helpful, we are gentle and we look after property.

We have also been thinking about ways we learn.  We have some dinosaur characters that help us with this:

Tryatops – does his best and never gives up.

Explorosaur – explores everything around her and asks questions to find things out.

I have been very impressed with how the children having been trying to be like these dinosaurs.

Year 2 PHSE – 12.01.17

This week in PHSE we started off with circle time and talked about the characters in Dot Com Rory and Jasmine and if they remember the ‘chant’ from Year one.

We then discussed what the children are good at and think of a time when they felt proud.

Children then had to draw a picture of themselves and write a few sentences in their journals about what they are good at and what makes them special.

Year 1 PHSE – 12.01.17

Rory and Jasmine meet Dot Com.

In PHSE this week we did circle time and talked about the characters jasmine and Rory and asked the children to describe which one is Rory and which one is jasmine. (This provides an opportunity to talk about the fact it doesn’t matter if you’re girl or a boy, you can choose what you like and dislike).

Children had to introduce themselves, say how old they are, who they live with and what they think they are good at. Children then had to draw a picture of themselves and why they are special.

Welcome back!

Year 2 have returned to school this week after long and relaxing break  over the Christmas holidays. They have come back excited and enthusiastic for the new term.

We have been introduced to our new Pirate topic this week and the children have been making lots of fun things to turn our classroom into a seaside resort! We have made nautical bunting using red, white and blue as well as making 3D crabs and lobsters to decorate our classroom.

We are really excited to find out more about Pirates and all the different kinds of people and boats that sail on water.

OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW

This week Year 3 have been looking at why and how people celebrate the New Year.  They have looked at how people celebrate the New Year across the world.  The start of the New Year is an ideal time to reflect on the year before and look at all the things we have done whether they have been good or bad.  It is also a time when many people make promises to themselves and their families and friends.  These families might be to get better at something, make a change to their lifestyle or to help others.

Year 3 looked at some of the things that they enjoyed during 2016 and some things they would like to change or get better at.
